With extraordinary strength and many excellent titles, AH-1 was not born professionally. The appearance of AH-1 "Cobra" was relatively hasty. It was a bidding plan put forward by the US army according to the actual situation of the battlefield.In the face of time constraints, Bell adapted the UH-1 Huey as a transport helicopter.In 1964, the U.S. Army, bogged down in Vietnam, proposed a specific bid.The program was to develop a professional-grade gunship, and the AH-56 Cheyenne gunship was a direct result of the program.But with the technology at the time, it was estimated that the AH-56 would be in service by about 1970, so in 1965 the Army proposed a transition plan that lowered some standards.Bell's previous experience with the Iroquois Warrior was put to use when they redesigned a self-financed variant of the UH-1 to combine the two models.So the AH-1 is actually a UH-1 lineage, and the first AH-1 does look a little bit like the UH-1 on the outside
The AH-1 Cobra gunship has a narrow-body, slender, streamlined fuselage with a narrow front face and side-engine air intakes located behind the tandem cockpit.The AH-1 has an air weight of 4,634 kg and a maximum takeoff weight of 6,690 kg. It uses two T700-GE-401 turboshaft engines with a maximum output power of 1,690 horsepower, a maximum flight speed of 282 kilometers per hour, a practical ceiling of 4,279 meters and a maximum range of 635 kilometers.The skin of the front fuselage uses flat head rivets to reduce resistance, and the antenna is built in as much as possible to ensure the smooth shape of the fuselage.Tubular skid landing gear with closed engine;The machine gun turret is located under the nose, and there are short wings for external weapons on both sides of the fuselage. There are two weapon pylons under the short wings, which can mount a variety of weapons such as "Tao" anti-tank missiles, rocket launcher nests and aerial bombs. A three-barrel 20mm Gatling gun is also installed in the pod under the arm.

實力不凡，擁有衆多優秀頭銜的AH-1並不專業的出生，AH-1“眼鏡蛇”的出現比較倉促，是美軍根據戰場實際情況提出的招標計劃。因爲時間緊張，美國貝爾公司直接在運輸直升機UH-1“休伊”的基礎上改進而來。1964年，在越南陷入泥潭的美國陸軍提出了具體的招標計劃。該計劃是研究一款專業級的武裝直升機，而該計劃的直接成果就是AH-56“夏延”武裝直升機。但是在當時的技術條件下，據估計等AH-56服役時已經快到1970年了，爲此1965年美軍就提出了一種過渡計劃，降低了一些標準。貝爾公司之前在“易洛魁武士”身上的經驗得以發揮作用，他們將自籌資金研發的一款UH-1改進型進行重新設計，將兩種模式融合在一起。也就是說AH-1實際上是UH-1的血統，而第一代AH-1從外表上看確實和UH-1有幾分相似
AH-1“眼鏡蛇”武裝直升機具有窄體細長流線型機身，正面狹窄，側置發動機進氣口位於串列式駕駛艙後面。AH-1空重4634千克，最大起飛重量6690千克，採用兩臺T700-GE-401渦輪軸發動機，單臺最大輸出功率1690馬力，最大飛行速度282千米每小時，實用升限4279米，最大航程635千米。機前機身的蒙皮採用平頭鉚釘以減小阻力，天線也儘可能內置以確保機身的光滑外形；管狀滑橇式起落架，密閉式發動機；機槍炮塔位於機頭下面，機身兩兩側有外掛武器的短翼，短翼下各有兩個武器掛架，可掛載“陶”式反坦克導彈、火箭彈發射巢、航彈等多種武器，機臂下的吊艙內還安裝了一門三管20毫米加特林機炮。
