In this video I will show you how to build a table. I made this table from 200 year old ash. Which we milling with a chainsaw. I'll leave a link under the video - how it all happened. And also a link to part one, where I made the legs for this epoxy table.
After two years of natural drying, I took the material to dry in a vacuum chamber. After which the workpiece was in the workshop for about 30 days to stabilize the wood.
The first important step is to remove the bark and if there are damaged areas of the tree, then there is rot. If you leave the bark, over time it will peel off from the tree along with the epoxy resin.
After that I will show you step by step how to make a mold for pouring an epoxy table. And so what you need to know so as not to lose money. Yes, you can lose a lot of money if you don't pay attention to this task. Namely, when making the mold, all edges and joints must be well coated with silicone. If you leave a small hole, then in the morning all the epoxy resin will be on your workshop floor.
I leave it for a day so the silicone can dry.
We moved slabs into the form. Be careful not to let dust get into the mold, because you can see it later in the epoxy resin in the most visible place)))
After pouring, check the temperature of the epoxy resin as it will heat up as it dries. This is the second moment when you can lose money - when the epoxy resin itself boils. So control the temperature of the epoxy.
The next step is flattening our table. I show how I flattening a table using equipment from the TOT company. Everything is very simple here. If you want to purchase such a TOT router sled , I will leave a link under the video.
Next, I show in the video and describe in detail how you can fill all the holes and defects on the surface of our table.
The final step is the finish coating. For the finish I used oil wax from Osmo.
Enjoy.
