Groundcheck Konferenz 2022: Prof. Dr. Friederike Fless - Einführung in das Konferenzthema

Dear Madam Secretary of State, dear Mrs. Morgan, Excellencies, dear Mr. Laubichler, dear colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to welcome you warmly to the conference organized by the Foreign Office and the German Archaeological Institute, Ground Check – Climate, Crisis, Archaeology. We all know the reports of the World Climate Council with their alarming results. Global warming is clearly visible in the global data. Calculations show that this increase cannot be explained in blue by natural factors such as the cycle of the sun and volcanic activities. It can only be explained if human influences are taken into account in the calculations, e.g. the emissions of fossil fuels and their use. The Nobel Prize winner Paul Crutzen, who called for the global climate to be called the current era of the earth, was a bit annoyed at a conference in 2000. Stop using the word Holocene. We are not in the Holocene anymore. We are in the Anthropocene. Thank you very much. Mr. Laubichler, I look forward to your lecture.
