Sofia Kenin vs. Leylah Fernandez | 2023 Guadalajara Quarterfinals | WTA Match Highlights

So Alex in the early stages of this match give us some sense of what the players will be trying to do so she can either go down the line or that cheeky drop shot of hers you're saying she's a cheeky girl oh i'm pretty sure she is she's hanging back for the second serve not trying to attack it and gets the error another double fault from kenan it's very good shot of hers well that was just a game that leila annie fernandez i think will want to forget with that back and felt like a thunderstruck child's play for sophia kennan fantastic serve and second shot as well from kenan and she takes the first sets six games to four under the mexican sun yep you're right so what do you do try to mix or try to go in the middle an early break then for sophia kennan she's done exactly what she did in the first set she got it fernandez's patience pays off three times from four opportunities so far me kenan isn't moving i'm trying to block it's out here we go and i knew exactly that second it doesn't it's a double fault from leila annie fernandez no way how'd you do that on set point down oh stunning play from sophia kennan a double fault from sophia kennan what a strange tiebreaker that was and leila annie fernandez is gifted the set in the ends her fifth points and we are going to a decider two brilliant backhands and a forehand to finish a game that fernandez will probably feel she should have won at 30 love she was ranked 280 in january now in scotland the world's top 50 sophia kennan into her third semi-final of the 2023 season her first at 1000 level moved to 31 on the live rankings it's a very impressive three-set victory for the american she's into the last four it was a beautiful match to watch i certainly enjoyed it
