Chris Algieri (USA) vs Manny Pacquiao (Philippines) | BOXING fight, HD
The coat tie arena would take a look at the tail of the tape and it'll tell us that Algeria is five inches taller.
Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner with his trainer Tim Lane, wearing blue with red and white trim.
Official weight 143.6 pounds. A perfect professional record consisting of 20 fights, 20 victories including 8 wins by knockout.
Today, he moves up to the welterweight division as the challenger from Greenlawn, Long Island, New York, USA.
The pride of Stony Brook University and the WBO light welterweight champion of the world, the Fighting Collegian, Chris Adams.
And fighting out of the red corner with his trainer Freddie Roach, wearing light blue and officially weighing in.
His Hall of Fame credentials, 56 victories including 38 knockouts, 5 defeats and 2 draws with 8 world titles.
From Sarangani Province, Philippines, the 8-time world champion, the reigning, defending WBO welterweight champion of the world, Manny McMahon.
The villain in the round, only the referee can stop the fight and in case of an accidental foul, we go to the scorecards after the fourth round.
He's ready to achieve what many think is unachievable. Can he do it?
Well, he did it against Provodnikov and it was the same situation for him there.
The difference in the two size of the fight with Provodnikov when he had a terrible first round and had to come on late.
Takati's sign there with his back foot, he had no power when he went with the right hand.
Cruising there under the eye, surprising in that after just one round, there's Pacquiao again throwing a punch from unusual angles.
I've never seen anybody throw.
It was effective and very important because you could see the eye down which caused that thing to pop up.
Caught him again with the left hook. Manny went after him but the gloves were up protecting Algieri.
The one other new thing, we mentioned as we see Manny going to the body, those other things that you mentioned.
There's the first knockdown of the fight.
Did he call that a knockdown? Takati's right was exactly what happened and what punch came just before it.
But it's officially scored as a knockdown.
We'll take a look at some of the action there now. Pacquiao coming forward.
You did see a punch but as he goes back, his legs definitely slip out from underneath him.
We've got two more like this.
So in other words, he's down on his punches perhaps to take command of the fight.
That might be dreaming.
Las Vegas trainer Tim Lane knows what he's talking about. He's a pro.
In order to offset what already has happened, Algieri is the current champ.
And of course, Algieri is the 140-pound champ with the lead right hand.
I think that just glanced below the chin.
It's a chess match right now for Manny to try and catch up with this guy and figure him out.
They believe they have a real handle on what's going on here.
There, Pacquiao reaching with the left knee.
I mean, I understand their strategy for the fight.
I don't see it unfolding in any other way than Pacquiao.
Nothing too heavy.
Manny looks almost a little frustrated sometimes.
But he's kept talking about the corner.
Algieri is certainly executing it.
He walked in with a nice uppercut there.
Gets back, protects himself, takes him on the glove.
Good body shot, three punches by Manny.
You know, Freddie is...
He backs his guys.
Yeah, he does.
I'm a little surprised at that right hand lead.
We take a look at some of the action from round number four.
Pacquiao coming up from underneath that uppercut.
Actually, not in the chin, more in the throat.
That hurts.
Pacquiao landing a...
He went with that left hand lead that time.
And the right hand lead, and he comes in.
Manny tries to keep pressure on, and Algieri making a missile walk.
As many as he misses, he's still landing.
But none of them, very few of them, are clean.
Nice and tight to your face.
Shoulders back, beautiful.
Spin that.
All right, let's take a look at how the action unfolded,
or at least some of it.
Pacquiao coming in behind the jab,
but he runs right into that straight right hand.
That's what we've been talking about, the punch and spin.
Nothing big.
Manny caught him a couple times there now.
And that steals the eyes of the judges.
I didn't think that was...
That was a good shot as well.
And as Manny realized, he may have hurt him.
And he dropped him.
And that's kind of the way he rolls over against Zvednikov
in the first round of the last fight.
It's funny the way he rolls over.
Let's see if Manny can catch him again.
That was a pretty good straight left hand.
He hurt him again and dropped him.
That's a knockdown.
Algieri's claiming that he slipped in the corner again.
And he may have.
Remember, there's no three knockdown rule in this fight.
Pacquiao's certainly putting the pressure on him.
Alright.
Two knockdowns.
That makes it a 10-7 round.
Alright, let's take a look at it now.
There you see that strong left by Pacquiao.
That hurt him.
You saw his legs do a little dipsy doodle there.
So you could tell that he was hurt.
And then he just basically went down from the fusillade of punches.
But it was that first centerpiece of American boxing.
Jerry Cooney from Long Island?
Yes, Jerry Cooney and Buddy McGirt.
Buddy. Yeah, yeah, Buddy.
Jerry's a great guy and so is Buddy.
Two good guys.
Manny painted areas in the water in the corners.
In the back.
Now to the left.
Manny with a nice combination followed by the right hand.
Manny's starting to put punches together.
Again, the right hand has been effective,
but that's only really maybe the fourth or fifth time
that Chris has been able to land it.
Chris, this is where we dream to be.
This is where we want to be.
He gets a great strategy.
There's his Pacquiao combination.
The right thing in every case.
Whether he can deliver or not is another thing.
Well, that's the problem.
And that's what this fight is about right now.
Manny.
Jerry just boxing nicely now, but going to the well,
but coming up a little dry.
She's enjoying it.
She goes from praying to punching.
A knockdown or a slip.
So far, he's been right on the button with those.
With the back of his left glove.
Algieri is a 140-pound champion and Manny at 147.
Straight left hand right down the middle
and Algieri's down for the fourth time in the fight.
That's the best markdown of the fight.
Yeah, he just gets up.
Certainly the best punch in the fight.
And that's the first real serious knockdown.
And there's a ton of time.
Algieri's in a heap of trouble here.
I think he was down a few times here.
And he is very, very wobbly.
His legs are betraying him right now.
And his eyes are glassy.
Here comes Manny again.
Remember, there's no three knockdown rule,
but Gino can stop the fight if Algieri can't defend himself.
Manny's on top of it.
He wants to knock him out right here.
Look at this.
He set the fires back and he's throwing like it is.
And he's trying to take him out.
He looked like he was going to stop him
with the hands of three.
Of course, he doesn't know how much time is remaining
in this round.
In fact, it was giving him really a wallop.
Inside of 10 seconds to go, it looks like he'll survive.
And the round is over.
Gino, it looked like he was going to stop the fight.
I want you to listen to me, Chris, while you're breathing.
I want you to listen to me.
We are exactly where we need to be.
I know you see.
All right, we'll take a look at it.
There it is, that scorching left hand.
A perfect punch to score the first knockdown.
Manny put everything into that one.
He was moving mostly forward, but a little bit to his...
And the assault again with solid left, right hand uppercut.
See his knees? He's wobbly.
Doesn't have particularly good balance.
Late in the fight.
Manny's just really overpowering him here.
He looked like a paper fluttering in the wind.
Chris tries to throw the uppercut left again.
There's the combination and down goes Chris Saldieri
for the sixth time in the fight.
His eyes are clear. He should be able to continue.
No, not at all. His legs are very loose.
I thought they were coming back a bit.
Let's take a look once again.
We could see that Pacquiao was fighting with more intent in that round.
He came out, he was really sitting down on his punches.
He is definitely looking for the KO.
And just that assault, just that all-out assault.
Champion's current, past, interim that he's fought.
You just can't underestimate the value.
His heels are down now.
Not moving anywhere near as much as he...
He's looking for it. He wants to score the KO.
Closing seconds now of the 11th round.
And it's a Manny Pacquiao clinic tonight.
Right. And he famously did it in the first Tim Bradley fight
and it cost him the fight.
But Algeria hasn't got enough power offensively now to do anything
to Manny, and Manny is the one plodding forward trying to catch up
with the assault with that left hand.
Now here comes the power.
Pacquiao just showed his class tonight.
You know, I'll never forget the first South Africa.
And Freddie Roach is pretty good.
He was right.
Pacquiao put on a sensational performance.
That has known him and has the opportunity to visit with him.
He's very fond of him.
That's it. It's all over.
Manny Pacquiao has retained his championship.
Manny, who is a very religious man.
Ladies and gentlemen, from the Asian Macau Hotel Resort,
we go to the scorecards.
Levi Martinez scores at 119-103.
Patrick Morley has the same score, 119-103.
And Michael Pernick scores at 120-102.
All three judges scored for the winner by unanimous decision.
And still WBO overweight champion of the world,
Manny Pacquiao.
All right, so the judges saw it almost exactly the way we saw it in the fifth round.
