Not so long ago, most of Europe's population was familiar with good manners, what colours meant single or cominded, and the language of flowers was common knowledge.
I was quite surprised to find out that not only flowers were used as messengers in ancient times, but leaves, some herbs and even some vegetables were used to convey a message when I read the book "The Galanthomme, or the Companion as he should be. An Instruction to Make oneself Popular by One's Way of Life and to Acquire the Favour of the Fair Sex, fourth and improved edition, 1842.
On page 106 the book reads, "Blade of Grass: Give me an answer."
I think it is lovely to look at the blades of grass moving in the rather strong wind we had that day. Christian Schlegel captured this scene when we were out looking for beautiful landscapes to film for our views on our Gan Jing World Channel.
Now that I know what "blade of grass" means in the language of flowers. I like this scene even more. I do not know about you, dear viewer, but I still have a lot of questions about life and about our cosmos in which we all live. So all the grass saying: (Please) give me an answer... for all my unanswered questions I find this thought actually quite nice.

By the way: Galanthomme has much more to say, for it contains: rules of etiquette and manners; love letters and poems; greetings; declarations of love; proposals of marriage; language of flower; langauge of signs and colours; birthday poems; New Year's=; and other wishes; declamations; social songs; amusing tricks; parlour games; forfeits; witty anecdotes; acrostics; mottoes for family books; and toasts. - A complete book of entertainment and instruction for gentlemen of every station.
