Akhenaten宗教改革的失敗原因，就是過於激進，而且沒有提出死後世界的解釋。古埃及人非常重視死後的世界，在當時的觀念中，靈魂最重的處罰就是〝沒有〞，而Akhenaten的新宗教，對死後世界是〝沒有〞，因此在Akhenaten死後數年之間，埃及就恢復了傳統宗教。由於當時的人們認為：Akhenaten背棄了神明，又喪失了大量的境外領土，根本不是太陽神-拉的兒子，連帶他的兒子Tutankhamun也受到牽連。在Tutankhamun逝世大約20年後，埃及土地上再也找不到他的痕跡了。

Some 20 years after Tutankhamun's death, there is no trace of him on Egyptian soil anymore.
