Dude Perfect vs. Luka Doncic Is EXACTLY What The NBA Feared

We are witnessing history in the making. Luka Doncic is in the midst of one of the greatest stretches of basketball any human being has ever played. With incredible averages of 33.7 points, 8.8 assists, and 8.8 rebounds per game this season, Luka is making his mark on the sport. And as you all know, the NBA is a business, and the importance of professionalism is always correctly pointed out. But basketball is also a game, and it's important to have fun. And this is what Luka Doncic has been doing apart from dominating on the court. Recently, he made an appearance on the popular YouTube show Dude Perfect Overtime. This is one of the most popular YouTube channels based in Frisco, Texas. Dude Perfect primarily produces videos that showcase a range of trick shots, stereotypes, and stunts. And they also frequently post videos of battles where the members of Dude Perfect engage in friendly competitions, using various sports and customized rules. We all know that Luka loves trick shots and moves, just like any other NBA player. And so it was only a matter of time before he teamed up with Dude Perfect to film a video. Likewise, another Mavericks player once previously appeared on the show, the former 7'3 Mavericks center who currently plays for the Houston Rockets, Boban Marjanovic, appeared on the show over a year ago. And having some experience with the over-the-top sports stunts at the show, Marjanovic issued some insightful advice to his old friend at the very start of the show, via a recorded video message. He said, I just want to encourage you for the overtime show. Your first time, don't be nervous. You're going to do really great, not too much expectation. You are not the first Maverick who has done this. I've already been that, and I crushed it. Everybody loved it, and everybody enjoyed it. Then Doncic begins playing one-on-one against the tall man, Cody Jones. Cody, who is incredibly tall for a non-NBA player, has a bold bet that he can score one basket against Doncic in this one-on-one faceoff, but was he able to pull it off? The game literally went the way you would expect a game between the best offensive player in the NBA and a regular person to go, as Jones was unable to score a single basket in the whole game. At 6'7 and 230 pounds, Luka is an offensive beast. He is currently leading the NBA in total points scored, and if some of the best defensive NBA players cannot stop him from making shots like this, did Cody really have a chance of stopping him? I don't think so. Luka Doncic, the Texan Maverick. As you may know, when it comes to connecting with fans, athletes often try to find ways to stand out from the crowd, but sometimes the best way to connect with the people who support you is by blending in. And this is what the Dude Perfect crew made Doncic do when they moved on to the cool or not cool segment. Doncic received the cowboy hat and boots, which he wore to the Christmas Day game. On Christmas Day, Doncic arrived at the Mavericks game against the Los Angeles Lakers, looking like a born and raised Texas cowboy, wearing a custom western wear outfit made exclusively for him. By appearing and dressing like the people in the team's hometown, Luka is showing that he's not just a superstar on the court for the Dallas Mavericks, but also a member of the community. Dude Perfect really emphasized on this as they themselves are based in Texas. Trick Shots Luka Doncic also joined the host to make some trick shots, showing off his impressive skills off the court as well. It was clear that he was having a great time, and that's one of the things we love about him. Doncic's childlike joy is always on full display, and it's a refreshing reminder that basketball is just a game, and it should be enjoyed. Whether it's a fancy pass, a trick shot, or a crucial point in the game, you can see the pure excitement all over him. Just look at him here. You just feel great watching him. This was after he had tied the game against the New York Knicks to head to overtime. Doncic put on an absurd triple-double stat line of 60 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists in an improbable overtime win for the Mavericks in that game. But it's not just about showing off. Many people may not know that these trick shots have actually helped Doncic in his game on the court. How, you may ask? Well, for one, practicing trick shots requires a high level of accuracy, precision, and control. By practicing these shots, Doncic is able to fine-tune his aim, improve his accuracy and his timing, and develop his hand-eye coordination on the court. Take this Noluca as an example. This shot requires perfect precision and accuracy. Not only that, but also this. I know some of you may think otherwise about this, but sure, this trick shot improves on timing and accuracy, even though it is not directly as you may expect. To put it into more perspective, the meeting with Dude Perfect took place before Doncic's 60-point triple-double against the New York Knicks and his 51-point game against the San Antonio Spurs. It's safe to say Doncic was a busy man and his stats improved. When we explained that we're going to play knockout with Luca, it became very apparent that he's pretty competitive and he definitely wanted to win. I mean, this guy is just an absolute animal, which is what you want and you know your best player for your home team. These are not my words, but the words of one of the Dude Perfect crew. This is the attitude that everyone wants on the players of the teams they support. Nobody likes losing, and having a competitive and winning attitude is a plus for Doncic and the Mavs. In the San Antonio Spurs game, Luca was clearly frustrated for the team not calling a crucial timeout in the final seconds of the game. They were lucky though, as they ended up winning with a small margin. He's so strong and also shifty. The guy just has a lot of weight that he can move around very gracefully, and he kind of fouls you without making it look like a foul, which is tough to defend. This is the true definition of Doncic's game, and what makes him a beast on the offensive end of the court. Being strong and shifty are the true attributes of a good offensive player. The Dallas Mavericks this season. Scoring isn't the problem for the Dallas Mavericks. In fact, they've been on fire from the field, shooting 50% or better in 3 of their last 4 games. Leading the charge for the Mavericks is none other than Luca himself. He's currently leading the NBA with 32 30-point games this season, which is also a career high for him. But the 23-year-old and the rest of the team need to drastically improve on defense for Dallas to be much more better. I don't think for a second that this team isn't capable of making a comeback in the defense. Just look at last season, when they made it all the way to the West Finals with Doncic leading the charge on both offense and defense. So if the Mavericks want to see Doncic's MVP prospects soar, they need to focus on their defense and make sure they're giving it their all on the court. Prior to the 115-90 win against the Heat, the Mavericks had been struggling defensively, with their execution hitting rock-bottom levels. In January, the team ranks 29th in the defensive rating and has given up a staggering 406 points over their 3 previous games. And one strategy that the Mavericks have been using to solve this issue is going smaller on the court. The Mavs thrive when they make teams pay for trying to be aggressive against Doncic. It becomes even more challenging to defeat them when their defense is swarming around the half-court, running the opposition off the line. This approach has proven to be successful against many teams because it puts maximum pressure on the defense to try and stop Luka Doncic's shooting abilities. And that's exactly what happened in the win against the Miami Heat. So, what do you think? Do you agree that Doncic appearing on Dude Perfect has helped him? And also, do you think the Mavs will improve in their defense anytime soon? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
