Good morning from Vietnam. We wanted to film this spot because the tracks are
amazing and it's a little bit quieter so I feel like we can talk to you. We just
woke up. It's like 6 o'clock in the morning and we're going to the Chinese
Embassy to fill out our applications for a Chinese visa. And we've heard it takes
a long time and that we needed to get there very early. Yes. The Chinese Embassy
was crazy. We just told you about it and now we're gonna de-stress with what's it
called? Bun cha? Bun cha. We tried bun cha before in Ho Chi Minh so we're gonna see how
this compares. Hopefully it's a little bit better. She grills the meats, let her serve.
What does it taste like? This is better than the bun cha we had before. It's not as sweet and it's more like
roasted meat. These are just rice noodles. The herbs and the lettuces. And we have chili.
And to my dismay, I just realized that this is straight garlic and I put a
whole clove in my mouth. And I just love this meal because you can do the whole
handful thing. You can make your own spring roll. You can put noodles and then
leaves and then at the very end you still have this awesome broth. But
whatever else you have in there. And it's only a dollar and ten cents.
You get to eat it on the street with the locals. It's amazing. I like to take my...
I love Vietnam. It feels like a theme park here. Every time I see a big stick with two baskets on it, they have the hat.
I'm just like, is this for show? You know how you go and see people with the parrots and you're supposed to put them on your shoulder?
Because it's for tourists. That's how I feel every time I see someone wearing the hat with the two things on it.
It just feels amazing outside. I love this country.
So this bakery smells so good and that's one of the reasons I love Vietnam is because they love bread and pastries.
And we haven't had some in forever.
That's exactly what I'm saying. We love Vietnam because we love bread. They love bread.
They like icing. We like icing.
Is it butter?
It's sweet. It's buttery.
It's good.
I have no idea what we bought. It's something completely different than what I thought it was.
I have literally no idea. I thought we were buying a certain fruit that had a white thing in the middle.
But when I got closer to her and too close not to buy anything, I realized it's not what we thought it was.
I have no idea.
I have a feeling this is a water chestnut.
Do not quote me on that because I have no idea.
It's actually surprisingly better than I thought it was going to be.
It's kind of sweet. It's kind of chalky though.
It has the feel of a water chestnut.
Yeah, like really watery, like chewy, like crunchy.
So I asked the lady what it was and she said it's called matai.
But this doesn't really give me much indication on what it is.
So if you know what matai is, you should let us know in the comments below.
Okay, we have a new challenge. I didn't realize this was phase one of three.
Today's our eating day. Since we were so stressed about all the Chinese embassy things,
we're getting a pineapple upside-down cake and some Pop-Tart thing.
Pineapple upside-down cake? Are you kidding me?
Ah, it's so good.
Whoa. So good.
Next is our Pop-Tart.
What makes it blue? We do not know.
It's as I expected.
It's very dense.
Red beans.
I surprised Leah by taking her to the Red River,
which is actually the river that borders Texas and Oklahoma.
So I've crossed this river many times.
That is not the same river.
Different continent completely.
But it is called the Red River and it is beautiful and I love seeing bodies of water
and knowing the origin of the city.
We have an R to ourselves. I don't really know if we're trespassing or not.
But either way, it is so quiet down here.
This is such a relaxing place.
This place really is just magical.
I think you're right. I love the street culture.
That's what it is. Everyone's sitting outside.
Everyone has their little job that they do.
Everything is done immaculately.
Whether that's a haircut or making trinkets or the way things are.
Fruit is even cut. It's just incredible.
Our spa place isn't open yet.
It opens in 30 minutes.
We're here at the corner.
We ordered coconut, cream, fruit, milk, something.
So we have coconut cream.
We have pineapple.
We have mango.
We have watermelon.
We have strawberries.
We have, I don't know, white jelly, lychee things.
Oh man, it's like pudding on the bottom.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
I want to say it's coco pandan jellies.
But I don't know that for a fact.
But it looks like it.
And this looks like it's going to be good.
Sweat today.
This is refreshing.
What I really love about Southeast Asia in general
is whatever they lack in super chocolatey, dense cookies, cakes, brownies, that type of thing.
They make up in super fun, fruity, delicious drinks and weird desserts like this.
That really cool you off.
So we're on this dark and dank street looking for pho.
Don't open it too wide.
I should have a rubber band.
How do I do that?
So we are here at Pho Suong, which is kind of in a touristy section,
but everybody's saying that this is the best pho in Hanoi.
So we are here as soon as they open.
Just the regular beef pho.
And look how much meat is on this thing.
It's just like, pho is so good because it's the perfect combination of meaty flavored broth,
semi-sweet, and herbs and onion.
And it just tastes so good.
And I don't know how to describe it other than that.
When I eat pho, I normally think like pan flavor, kind of like chicken broth, just by itself.
This is not like that at all.
It has a bunch of flavor and then if you add a little bit of spiciness and some lime, it's really good.
So full.
I think this food baby is going to last me like three years.
Yes.
But we ate all that food for you so we could tell you what our favorite dish was.
It was for you.
I think my favorite was the pho.
You can't beat beefy, noodle-y, meaty, onion-y.
In the noodles, yes.
And my favorite was boon chok.
I love eating it with my hands and you can also eat it as a soup.
Yes.
It's just amazing.
It's interactive and fun.
So that's it for this vlog.
Thanks.
Here you go.
Thanks for watching.
