Once upon a time, there were two girls who were the best of friends.
They lived in a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny apartment.
Hey, at least that's a brick wall.
Like many displaced foreign-raised Asian Americans,
and Asian Australians, these young women...
Princesses!
What?
We're princesses!
Princesses!
Okay, fine.
These young princesses found themselves out of touch with their own culture.
Hey, you know it's Mid-Autumn Festival, right?
Oh my god, yeah!
So what do we do?
So they found that the Mid-Autumn Festival started as a religious ritual
to pray for a full harvest.
It's a time for families from all parts of the country to come together
and appreciate the full moon,
which symbolizes peace, prosperity, and family reunion.
They pay respect by burning incense,
celebrate by watching fireworks,
all the while eating mooncake and drinking osmanthus tea.
The first thing on their list of things to do was to find a mooncake.
Felicia had bravely volunteered to go to a faraway, exotic place called Chinatown.
I don't think that's a mooncake.
Despite their utter failure, the girls...
Princesses!
The princesses carried on to find the fragrant sweet osmanthus flowers
to make traditional tea and cake.
What is that smell?
Which unfortunately only grows overseas in Asia.
Undeterred, the princesses decide to burn some incense
to pay respect to their ancestors and the moon goddess.
Forgotten by the gods and dampened by their failures,
Felicia and Mia decided they needed to do something drastic
in order to turn their fortunes around.
What they needed were some fireworks.
Which unfortunately are illegal in NYC.
Mia and Felicia sat in deep despair,
sitting in self-pity,
thinking the world is unfair.
For a brick wall stood where the mid-autumn festival moon should.
Alone they were,
parents and family nowhere in sight.
I can't do this.
This is so depressing.
I'm done.
Well, at least we have each other.
Yeah, and even though we suffered,
at least we suffered together.
Aww, we should get that tattooed on our faces.
Friendship!
No.
I got you something!
A cake!
Oh, Mia!
This is durian!
It's the king of fruits!
I feel like I just swallowed a dirty sock.
