Wooden art sculptures have a long history that dates back to ancient Egypt. Today, many artists are still working in this timeless medium. One of them is David Engdahl.
David Engdahl is a retired architect who is now working as a wood carver. David have created beautiful wood sculptures since 1971. His artworks have been showcased in many countries across the globe, and appeared in many collections of several American museums.
This video shows the process of Dave Engdahl creating wood sculptures from scratch. To create wood sculptures, Dave Engdahl transfers his ideas into detailed sketches, which are traced on plywood, cut out and pressed to create the rough sculpture using white wood glue. The surface is then carefully ground, finely sanded and covered with a satin polyurethane finish.
Dave’s wood sculptures comes from his love for the nature. It comes from Dave’s observation of everyday life. David's work explores the relationship between nature and technology. He strives to create the integrity of materials/methods/forms as a language of expression and natural beauty.
