These wrenches are too useful in a wide range of settings to not have in your toolkit. We use them ongoing for a variety of applications. Figuring out what direction the ratchet will engage is easy too!
Simply look at the offset direction of the open wrench end, and that's the direction of swing that the box end will engage. The opposite direction will engage the ratchet to position the wrench for another partial turn.
The wrenches we have only have a 15-degree offset on the open end side, there is no offset for the box end, but there are models that do have an offset or have a link assembly there for coming at a bolt or not from an angle above.
We think these are great tools, and they are another asset that aligns with our philosophy of JUST DO IT YOURSELF!
Hey, Dirt Farmer Jay here from DirtFarmerJay.com. If you don't have a set of these combination
ratcheting wrenches, you should get some. They're great tools. With a 15-degree offset open end over
here, there's room for you to grip and stay away from an adjacent space to undo the fastener on
this end. And on the other end, there's a box end that ratchets. The offset over here gives you the
direction that it's going to engage. Whatever way that offset's pointing, in this case to my left,
it's going to grip, but it's going to ratchet going to the left. Flip it over,
now it's going to engage going to the right, loosen going to the left. So you can always
figure that out. They're available in metric and SAE from several manufacturers. You can even get
some right here that have links right here so you can offset. There's a wide range of these
available from different manufacturers, and they're a great addition to your makerspace tool set.
