Welcome back to a new episode as you probably can guess from a huge smile I'm super excited about
this episode. We have visited some amazing places in the last week between Tavolare, La Maddalena,
Bonifacio. Those are all amazing places and we're so happy to have been able to visit them
but those are also all places which are really really famous around the world.
Instead this week we are searching for the more hidden places and hidden gems
of Sardinia but enough talking let's start.
As you probably hear and see we are currently sailing we are on our way
from Corsica back to Sardinia. In specific we're going to sail to Porto Torres to the
Comorano Marina where Cristina is waiting for us and will reveal us some secret spots of Sardinia.
So we can finally reveal where we are going. It's called Isola Asinara and it's actually a
natural reserve in the northwest of Sardinia. It's an island which is totally under natural
protection. It's kind of divided in different zones. There are zones where nobody is allowed
to go there besides research and we looked now at the different buoys that are available in the
natural reserve and we decided together with Cristina and Antonello on some really nice
tours through the national park and we are already super excited to go. Now here in the
marina we're going to stock up on food, fuel and water because after Isola Asinara we're actually
going to start to Menorca. Before those long crossings you always prefer to go into the marina
and yeah check up everything, fuel up everything so we are secure when we leave.
Oh it's so hot in the marina, we're dying.
This place is surreal, the water is just... it's blue de blue. I don't know how to describe the
color, it's just magical. We're definitely going to take a jump here at Spaggia Pelota before we
head up to Cala Reale on the island of Asinara. I don't know if you can hear it on this audio but
we just arrived to Isola Asinara and the first thing we actually heard was an asino, which I
actually don't know how to say in English. You. No. Yeah? And you. We are taking an electric
car to explore the island. It's actually my size.
Donkeys. Donkeys, donkeys.
What happened? So as Greta broke down the car, she made it explode. We're now sitting here and
eating our dinner. We wanted to have some nice picnic but it's also not bad here. It's a very
nice bay and a lot of old houses. There's a freed or a diving center so to check that out but yeah
let's hope someone is going to pick us up because we're in the middle of the island
and the car broke down. Literally never let women drive.
This was it for Cala Reale here on Isola Asinara. We are heading now to Cala d'Oliva which is a
little bit more in the north and where we actually ended up yesterday. Unprogrammed due to our little
misfortune. Yeah wow. Things unfortunately happen and you have to adopt those. On the other hand
thanks to this misfortune we were able to spot a beautiful Swan 70 and have a really nice chat
with Antonello which showed us a lot about this amazing island. Interestingly here on this island
in the 1900s all the residents were kind of asked to leave and they installed here a lazarette.
This means that here on this island everybody who had an illness which was not easily curable
and could easily spread like malaria and so on was brought to this island and had to stay
on quarantine here on this island. Nowadays we're more used to quarantine than we would think
and yeah if we think where we had to spend all our quarantines or you had to spend all our
quarantines this island is probably not such a bad place to do it. So now all these old buildings
that you can see here were actually hospitals and the different smaller towns that we passed
yesterday by cars were different kind of quarantine zones depending on the illness
and on the gravity of illness that you have. Nowadays there is no one really living on the
island since 1998 so over 20 years now this is a beautiful national reserve park and you can
actually do beautiful dives here also free diving. We probably will not manage to do that unfortunately
we will already have to leave to Menorca tomorrow because the wind would be favorable and then it
changes again. Us sailors unfortunately we have to adapt to the wind and we're going to do that
but for now we're going to discover Cala d'Oliva and there is a special place there that I would
like to show you. We arrived here to beautiful Cala Luna and it's lunchtime so we're going to
eat now. Today we kind of have a special lunch because it's our last day here in Sardinia so we
actually wanted to show you some of the amazing food they have here in Sardinia. Here in Sardinia
they have one thing that you probably won't find anywhere else in the world and that I totally pray
for. You have to know I'm not really a sweet person I like more salty stuff and bitter stuff
the only sweet thing that I like is honey and yeah here in Sardinia they managed to make
a bitter honey. It might sound super strange it's called Amaro di Corbezzolo or Miele di Corbezzolo
and it's just the best thing that you could eat with cheese. Now we're going to have lunch
and then we're going to get into the water to try to swim out all those calories
So we swam now here to this beautiful beach which is not only beautiful but it's actually
really special too because here they made different infrastructure so that they constructed
a diving spot for disabled people which I find is amazing. We have seen so much fish in this
bay which you have not seen I think in the whole Mediterranean so natural reserves do actually
really count and are useful so whenever you visit them pay attention to follow the rules.
That was it guys with this beautiful sunset we are going to leave Asinara today and heading
for Mallorca. Thanks again to Comorano Marina and Antonello and Cristina we just had an amazing
time here it was really really beautiful. We hope you liked this episode and this a little bit
lesser known part of Sardinia which we totally loved. If you ever are here make sure to come by
it's a real gem. If you like it don't forget to hit the subscribe button
and come back next week to see how we explore Menorca. Bye!
