Not every crossing goes as planned! We finally hoist the sails and leave Israel behind us, but on our sail to Cyprus we encounter our first serious problem. At least we would call losing your boom out at sea a quite serious problem. If you want to see how we cope with losing the fixing pin of our boom during our 200nm crossing from Israel to Cyprus check out the video! We obviously also show the amazing sailing experience we had before the incidents and will show you how you are going to prevent losing your boom and the fixing pin of your boom at sea.

So it's the evening before our crossing tomorrow to Cyprus.
We are pretty excited. We have been here now two months in Herzliya Marina.
And it has been a nice but cold winter, so we are very happy to...
The coldest since years.
We are a little bit happy to start now. Hopefully there is less rain in Cyprus.
And it's warmer maybe, hopefully.
Let's see.
We prepared everything for tomorrow.
We normally lay out all our clothes and stuff, so we don't have anything to worry about.
In the morning.
Yeah, so tomorrow at around 7 the coast guard will come and we will finalize all the documents.
And then we are ready to go.
So one last bite. Going to bed now.
We just cleared out and made it out of the marina.
And we are ready for Cyprus now.
Nearly sailing. We hoist the sail.
But unfortunately we have only about 5 knots right now.
But it should get a little bit more later on.
Last time when we came from Alornaca we had like this rig.
Like flapping bird and a few octopuses.
Once the fishing rods were in the water we sit down and enjoyed this nice sail in the sun.
Last long and as predicted clouds came up.
And we could already see some rain in distance.
So we decided to put on our weather gear.
One more.
Wait.
Do you feel afraid?
Not at all.
Let's see.
It's now 3 a.m. in the morning and it's pretty dark because there are mostly clouds.
It has been raining and windy the last hours.
But now fortunately it has calmed down a little bit.
We have been taking turns of about 2-3 hours.
Unfortunately I got very seasick at about 10 p.m. yesterday.
Because simply I probably just got too cold out here in the rain.
But after a good 3 hours of sleep I am back outside here now.
And entering my third hour of watch.
And I then will be changing again with Michael.
It's pretty stable now.
The wind died a little bit on us so we are motoring now.
But really looking forward to get back to land right now.
Tiredness is kicking in a little bit.
But I am sure that tomorrow in the morning everything looks better again.
And so it did.
After a common breakfast everything looked a lot more sunny again.
And with only 14 nautical miles to go.
We decided it was time to hitch the Cyprus flag.
So while changing the flag I found this.
And I think it belongs to the gooseneck holding the...
The mane?
Yeah.
That's not good.
Not good.
During our crossing from Tel Aviv to Cyprus.
We nearly lost our boom.
This part.
And when I was walking forward to change the flag from Israel to Cyprus.
I saw a little splint.
This one here.
Laying on the deck.
Because it was rusted, corroded, whatever.
Breaking apart.
And the bolt inside holding the gooseneck was always moving upwards.
Due to the movement of the boom and the shaking of the boat.
So if it would have gone higher or lower we would have lost our deer.
Boom.
So what we learned is that every day...
No, what we learned is that before every passage now we will check the gooseneck.
Or basically every other screw.
If something is missing.
Any final words my captain?
This is Hanneke Marina.
