How to Install a Whole-House Dehumidifier (the Right Way)
Are you dealing with high indoor humidity? This video shows you How to Install a Whole-House Dehumidifier in the Right Way.
Your air conditioner likely does an excellent job of removing too much humidity, if it is sized properly. However, It isn't always hot enough to run the air conditioner in the spring and fall. Indoor humidity can quickly rise to an uncomfortable level while it isn't running. What if your air conditioner is too big for your house? You're probably not eliminating enough humidity to keep cool and comfortable if that's the case, which is a common issue. A whole-house dehumidifier will solve all of these problems.
Steps for How to Install a Whole-House Dehumidifier:
1. In the attic, fasten the metal pan from the collar ties together with four steel hanging bars.
2. Put the pan right next to the air conditioner.
3. Place the metal pan with the whole-house dehumidifier inside.
4. Remove the old return-air grille by drilling a square hole in the hallway ceiling.
5. Connect a flexible return-air duct to the dehumidifier's port.
6. Use plastic straps to fasten the duct to the roof structure.
7. Cut the duct to length, then attach it to the return-air grille installed in Step 3.
8. Make a fresh supply-air duct fitting for the air conditioner.
9. Join the fitting with a flexible supply-air conduit. Connect the duct's opposite end to the current air-conditioning ductwork.
10. From the dehumidifier, run a fresh PVC condensate line to the outside.
