WHAT'S IN MY HOSPITAL BAG FOR LABOR AND DELIVERY!! | Hillary Alex

Getting into the good stuff What's up guys welcome back to my channel Hilary Alex here if you are new if you are returning Thank you so much for watching today's video I'm gonna be sharing with you guys what's in my hospital bag and what's in my baby's hospital bag. I love these videos I can't tell you how many I've already watched whether you're a first-time mom second-time mom I know that we're constantly evolving each time We have a baby and we're always looking for like new products and stuff that can be super helpful Stuff that wasn't helpful and stuff that you just didn't use Just looking and searching for ideas that you can grab and take that will work for you I can tend to be an overpacker So I tried to keep it as minimal as possible because I know that I'm probably not gonna touch half of the stuff in this Bag, so I wanted to keep it semi practical, but also be prepared for like any situation. Oh, I think I did pretty good I think I kept it down to just like the Basics and what I think I would need while I'm in there as a first-time mom and giving birth for my first time It's super nerve-wracking going into the hospital and going into labor and delivery Like just absolutely blind not knowing what to expect at all Just kind of like hearsay what you've heard on like YouTube or through your friends and your family I really don't think that anything can prepare you unless you've gone through it before So I'm just gonna wing it and hope for the best. I don't have a birth plan I'm not having a plan C section as of now I'm hoping for a natural birth, but I know that at any time that plan can change So my estimated due date is January 15th 2020 and I am currently 36 weeks pregnant So I think I packed my bag last week sometime just because you never know at this point on Anything can basically happen. So I just wanted to be prepared that way I can sleep at night knowing that if anything were to happen I can at least have things ready grab the bags and we're on the way But I cannot wait to share all this stuff with you guys I hope it gives you some sort of inspiration if you haven't packed your bag yet Or if you have and you're still looking for items that you may need. Hopefully this gives you some good ideas I'm gonna try to get through this as quickly as possible. I am getting over a cold. That's just never-ending right now So if I sound like a monster, that's why I'm super congested and it's just lingering forever So I'm so sorry and I apologize in advance for that. Just bear with me. So let's get into it before we get into Today's video. And this is just a duffel bag from Herschel I think it's the perfect size as you can see. It's not too big. It's not too small It fits all of my clothes everything inside here. I love Herschel products I have backpacks from them and I have other products from them I just find them to be so durable and last for a really long time. You can use this for travel You can use it for whatever you're doing weekend trips. So I'll show you guys what it looks like on the inside Okay, so the first thing when I open my bag I just have this refillable water bottle and it says feel and fly as a mother I think I got this in a subscription box called bump box Which is like a pregnancy subscription box that you can get and it sends you pregnancy related items that are relevant to each Trimester that you're in so I got this water bottle in one of the boxes and I figured this would be really good to have Because I know that the hospital gives you like their water cups or whatever but I also wanted my own water cup because I know I'm gonna be drinking a ton of water and I want something that I Constantly be refilling and drinking from and it has a little straw that you can just flip up and drink from right here So my suggestion would be to definitely bring your own water bottle Whether it's a yeti a hydro flask any kind of like reusable water bottle that you're using or you have at home I have gone through two yetis already. If not three, I keep losing them and I was like screw it I'm not gonna order another one because they're a little bit pricey and I don't know what happens But I'll just leave them places and I'm just super forgetful. So so if I did have my yeti That's what I would be bringing because it keeps your stuff super super cold And if you're like me and you like your drinks very cold Then I think a yeti and a hydro flask would come in handy. I might still get one and bring it I'm not sure we'll see but as for now, I think this one will do just fine. Okay getting into the good stuff We have adult diapers I have about three here because I know that the hospital provides you with a little mesh underwear And I know that a lot of people say that the mesh underwear are Comfortable and they work just fine when you're in the hospital I have about two packs of these adult diapers for postpartum when I'm home So I'll definitely be using these when I'm home And I figure if I don't like the mesh Underwear that they give you that I can at least have these for backup and then also for the way home and Leaving the hospitals I will link the brand of these and everything else mentioned in this bag in the description box below that way you guys can find Everything that I'm referencing to super easy Love this for us you guys. Okay moving on. I have just these think high-protein bars They have 20 grams of protein in one bar. I'm bringing these for Matt and myself I know that I can't eat when I'm in labor But Matt can obviously eat and then we're gonna be there for quite some time Afterwards when I am able to eat and if I don't feel like eating hospital food, or I want a snack I think it's gonna be really convenient to have a snack on hand for both Matt and myself So I'm just bringing a box of protein bars because you never know and then I just picked up these That's it bars from Target, and it just has apples and strawberries in them I've never tried these before but I was shopping with my friend Tara and she highly recommended this brand So I just picked up these and threw them in there as well as a snack for like I said either me or Matt And then this is for Matt as well. These are his favorite Red Bulls I know that homeboy is gonna be needing these to stay alive and stay awake So it's just a pack of four Red Bulls and I know it's gonna come in clutch when he needs them Okay Now moving on to the packing squares that I have in here if you don't have packing squares I highly recommend getting some I got these ones off of Amazon and they come in all different sizes I don't remember how many this pack or this set came with but it came with quite a bit I still have a few leftover that are under my bed right now that I didn't end up using But I just think that they're so convenient They help keep everything organized in your bags that way you don't have just a ton of stuff thrown around everywhere I know for me, I'm probably gonna be stuck in the hospital bed a lot So I'm probably gonna be sending Matt into my bag to grab whatever it is that I need So it's gonna be a lot easier for him to know like hey My clothes are in the big packing square and my toiletries are in the smaller one Can you just grab that and hand it to me? And he can just go in find it real quick and pull it out and bring it to me So it just helps to keep everything super organized and I highly recommend Picking some up because not only does it keep you organized it just kind of like compacts everything to where it needs to go and Creates more space in your bag for more items. So for this first packing square I just have all of my toiletries and I will go through and show you guys what each of that entails Okay, so I have a loofah just in case I want to take a shower I've heard people say that they didn't shower the whole time. They were in the hospital. They just waited till they got home However, like I said, I want to be prepared just in case I feel so gross and I want to take a shower I'll have all the essentials that I need and it's not that excessive I just brought a loofah to clean up with I brought a travel size shampoo and conditioner Just in case you never know what's gonna happen How crusty and nasty you're gonna feel if I do I have a little shampoo and conditioner to wash my hair with I have a little Portable toothbrush and toothpaste. I got most of this travel stuff at Target I also got a little mouthwash that way if I can't get up and move around and go brush my teeth right away But I want to freshen up a little bit Matt can bring this over to me with a little cup and I can just freshen up real quick I have just some extra hair ties and bobby pins Just in case I want to tie my hair back get it out of my face. I also got these Invisibobby invisibobble hair ties, too I've heard good things about these that they don't leave like creases in your hair so if you did want to throw your hair up at one point if you're getting hot and then you want to take it down later For pictures and not look super ratchet like I'm not always the cutest with a messy bun like everybody else So if you wanted to take it down and look cute for a picture later Your hair is not all creased and then if I don't end up showering or washing my hair Which honestly if I do shower, I'm probably not gonna end up washing my hair Probably just brushing it up with some dry shampoo and be good to go So got a little travel size dry shampoo a package of gum I have heard from a lot of people to bring either gum or mints Because when you're in labor, like sometimes you want a distraction of like chewing on something Sucking on something no pun intended you guys you dirty minds Sucking on something like a sugar-free lollipop or a mint and also just to like keep your breath fresh because I've heard that sometimes in labor that you can end up puking from the pain or puking from any kind of medication that they're giving you and If you just want to quick like freshen up then have some gum and mints on handy Also for your partner because you don't want your partner like breathing over you and like being up in your grill telling you what a great Job, you're doing and like push and his breath is just super ranky, you know So like a nice way of being like, can you get me some gum and they're gonna be like, oh, I want one, too Pop that gum in they're gonna be less obnoxious and annoying and smell good Q-tips because I'm a q-tip whore and I don't go anywhere travel anywhere without q-tips I have chapstick because I've heard when you're in labor your lips get super super chapped and dry So it's very important to keep everything very hydrated I have a travel size lotion because like I said, you're gonna be super dry Like I said, stay hydrated. The life is about to be sucked out of you So lotion is really good to keep your body hydrated I have a little thing of deodorant because you don't want to be ranky and stinky when visitors are coming to visit you I have a little package of makeup wipes. I am 99.9% sure that I'm not gonna be wearing makeup during the whole labor process I'm just not that girl and it's the last thing I care about The only way I'm wearing makeup going into labor is if something happens midday and I have like a full face of makeup on Praise be if that's the case and if I do and I want to end up taking that off then I have makeup wipes on hand I'm bringing these because like I said if I am stuck in the hospital bed and I can't get up This will be a good way of like freshening up and washing my face without using water and whatnot I have a thing of hand sanitizer because germs, babies, no go There's gonna be people who are coming in and out of your hospital room that maybe you want to be like Hey, you want some hand sanitizer or you're changing your baby and you want to freshen up with some hand sanitizer Always good to have on hand I know that they probably have like industrial size ones in the hospital But just in case we got one right next to us and this I heard is really really good for postpartum This is the wish garden herbal remedies after ease for pregnancy and this is an herbal dietary supplement These are relaxing herbs to ease afterbirth discomforts I heard that you can drop a few of these in your water Whatever you're drinking and it will help when you're nursing your uterus is gonna still be contracting This is something that I learned in my birthing classes and from watching just YouTube videos and talking with my friends Maybe you don't know if you're a first-time mom But after you give birth and you are nursing your uterus is going to be Contracting back down to its normal size The contractions aren't going to stop because you gave birth and your baby's out Still gonna be feeling those contractions and these after-ease drops Can really help just like it says ease the discomfort of those feelings So so I've heard nothing but great things about these after-ease drops If you're gonna get anything, I highly recommend picking this up. Just do yourself a favor and make yourself more comfortable So I just ordered these on Amazon Like I said, I will link everything down below in the description box for you Okay, and then I just have disposable nursing pads. These are just the Lansin Oh Nursing pads and I just grabbed a handful and put them in my toiletry bag And then I'm also bringing a little tub of nipple butter Because I don't know how my nipples are gonna feel With the baby sucking down on them for the first time and I've heard from other moms to definitely bring some sort of nipple cream nipple butter, whatever it is Bring some along because your nipples are gonna be going through all kinds of changes and it's definitely gonna be good to have on hand So I just have this earth mama one I think I got it in a subscription box or something like that But you can also find it on Amazon which I will link down below for you guys So that is it for my toiletry bag The only thing that I'm gonna be adding in here probably just my moisturizer, which I use every single day So I'm not gonna put it in here yet I have it in my phone as like last-minute items to put in my hospital bag before I leave So that's gonna be my everyday moisturizer, which I use the summer Fridays because I'm extremely dry The sleeping mask. I use that as my moisturizer. Okay, next up We have the clothing that I'm bringing and this is in this packing cube Which I'll go through quickly and show you guys what is in here. I am going to be bringing a open Cardigan and this kind of acts like a robe. I am bringing your robe as well but when you want to get out of that robe and just throw a nursing tank on or a Nursing gown and just throw like a really comfy cardigan over it For when visitors come to visit baby or whatever and just feel a little bit more put together I just got this one from Target and it is super super soft it is really long too, so it is just kind of like I said robe ish and Just very comfortable and then I just have a few nursing bras This one is definitely a little bit more supportive. You can adjust straps They're also the world's softest material. So these I believe came from Amazon in a three pack. So three different colors This is just the one that I chose to bring and these are more comfortable like sleep nursing bras from the brand Odden from Target. So I'm bringing just a nude one and then I'm also bringing a Black one So the material on these again is super buttery soft and then you can just flip this part down and the titty comes out And you can nurse very easily So all very very comfortable nursing bras that I chose to bring and then as far as postpartum underwear I got two packs of the same kind and I'm bringing three just in case Like I said, I probably won't be wearing these. I'll probably be wearing the adult diapers But if I choose to just wear the postpartum underwear with a pad on the way out then I have that option So I just brought a black pair a nude pair and like a pinky color and then I'm just bringing one black nursing tank This is from the brand Odden from Target as well I would bring one nursing tank if not a few that way you can get out of the hospital gown and into something that Feels a little bit more like you and then as far as a robe I'm just bringing one black basic robe and this is from the stars above Target brand it just has a regular tie waist with the little fringe on the end Nothing fancy again It's black because you're in labor and delivery and a lot of stuff's going on and you want to keep most of your clothing items That you're bringing with you dark just in case anything happens anything gets on them You don't really care or see it that much So I just chose to go super basic with a lot of my items These are something that I already own so I didn't really have to go out and like spend any money But this is also from Target from the stars above brand and it buttons down so very convenient for nursing Just have a nursing bra underneath You can just button down the buttons and still feel comfortable and out of that hospital gown and then that just came with matching shorts and if I didn't want to wear shorts and I just wanted to throw some pants on with a nursing tank and like my Cardigan for when visitors come in because we are gonna be having visitors we have a huge family and I know that they're gonna be super excited to come in and Visit with the baby once I've allowed myself enough time to recover and feel comfortable to let them come in I Might just want to have some pants on with a nursing tank and a cardigan if that is the case I will have them these are again the stars above brand and they're just like a blush color I don't have any darker ones. These are just ones that I already have So I'm gonna bring these just in case like I said might not wear them but who cares I'll just have them Okay, and then I just have this black Henley long Nursing gown from Bella bum bum. This brand is the cutest brand ever for nursing items baby me items They have so much different stuff available on their website This nursing gown is so cute because it's basic but it also has that little lace Detailing on the sides which makes it like a little bit more sexier Which I feel like we all need during this time is something that makes you feel a little bit more feminine a little bit more Like yourself and a little bit more put together because we can be a hot mess during this time So it's just like the simple things that make us feel better about ourselves Bella bum bum is a really cute brand They also sent me this nursing bra, which I'm not bringing But I'm gonna show you guys because it's way too cute to bring to the hospital It has this little lace detailing on it. And then as far as coming home I have these sweatpants joggers from the brand airy and These are so buttery soft you guys and you can have the option to wear them high-waisted like this or you can also Fold them down to wear them like regular waisted and then I will probably just bring like this crewneck That I have from airy as well. That's like army green and it has slits on the side So if I do need to nurse I can just lift it up real quick for whatever reason the hospitals like five minutes from our house So I really don't care that much and then I'm just bringing three pairs of socks and two of these fuzzy pairs That I got from Amazon. They came in like a package of a bunch hospitals can be really cold So to keep your little feetsies warm, I would definitely bring some fuzzy socks You can get the ones with the grips on the bottom Whatever makes you feel comfortable, but I'm just bringing two pairs of these and then one pair of these Ingrid and Isabel socks that have the grips on them because these don't if I do just want to throw these on and like I'm able to walk Around the hospital room. I won't have to worry about slipping and sliding everywhere These do have the grips on them and they just say mama on them so cute I'm just gonna wear these coming to the hospital and leaving the hospital probably because I already live in these and they're just so comfortable These are just little slippers that I ordered on Amazon They're like a dupes for like 20 bucks So I will leave that also link down below because if you don't have these you need them in your life Okay, and then call me extra whatever I'm bringing my own blanket because like I said hospitals can be really really cold I've gone to the labor and delivery a few times and it is freezing in there I know that your hormones are crazy and like you can either be super hot or really cold Whatever. You just want to feel comfortable when you're there so I'm bringing this really soft fuzzy blanket that I got it like home goods, I think and She's coming with me because also the blankets there suck They're all like paper thin and they just don't really keep you like comfortable and warm So I'm gonna bring this just to throw over Myself and like make me feel a little bit more at home and then I'm also gonna be bringing my boppy nursing pillow I don't know if I'm gonna be bringing pillows for myself from home I just don't know like how extra I'm gonna be with everything like carrying in all this stuff and like pillows and blankets like hey I'm moving in. I feel like I'll be just fine with the pillows. They provide me but like whatever maybe okay, and then for electronics I'm just bringing this little charging port Which you can just go ahead and plug your USB cord into and she can go wherever she wants with you Instead of getting like a super long charging cord This is just what I'm gonna bring and then I'm just gonna bring my laptop Just in case I want to watch any shows or anything. That's not on the hospital TV I've been addicted to re-watching series that I absolutely love I just finished One Tree Hill and now I'm re-watching Vampire Diaries I wanted to distract myself and watch something that I have my computer. I will obviously bring my computer charger as well I'm not gonna bring my cameras batteries or any of that because I'm not planning on filming anything at the hospital No birth vlog or anything. I just want it to be very intimate and a moment with me and Matt So none of that's coming with me and then in the side pocket I saw that I just threw a few prenatal vitamins and put them in a Ziploc baggie And I'm gonna take them with me that way I can still continue to take them after birth Other than that, I think that's everything that I plan on taking with me. Let's move on to what is in baby's bag Basically just a bunch of clothes because the hospital is gonna provide basically everything for us I did a labor and delivery class at the hospital and they told us everything that would be provided And that's why I'm not bringing a lot of postpartum care as well Because a lot of that postpartum care is gonna be provided through the hospital I'm not going overboard and bringing like a ton of stuff that is just not gonna be practical So the bag that I have is just our diaper bag. This is the Fawn Design diaper bag I have a little sound machine attached to it So that way the baby can have a sound machine in the hospital and on the ride home I'm gonna show you guys everything that's in here I just have one packing cube in her diaper bag and in it I just have two different beanies I just have a plain white one and then I just have this little striped knotted one Just in case it's cold and the little bows are like not cutting it and she needs something to cover her head she'll have little beanies and Then her going home outfit that I'm obsessed with you guys It's just this little onesie from Spearmint Baby That is cheeto print and it has a little ruffle bottom on it, and it's just so adorable It's my favorite outfit ever. So this is what she will be coming home in with this baby bling bow and then She has a little fur coat How cute is this? Oh, she is just going to be wearing this little outfit when she comes home. I tried not to get too excessive with packing for her and more realistic of what she's gonna be wearing and how long we're gonna be in the hospital, so This is something that I did get for pictures This is from Lulu and Company and this is just a knotted gown with polka dots on it And it's just long you knotted at the bottom and I picked this up for Like her announcement photos in the hospital and then I'm just bringing a few extra bows for options Just this little neutral tan one and then this velvet Like rust colored one. That's super cute Just a regular Long sleeve sleeper just in case she needs this for whatever reason She'll have an extra little sleeper. I'm bringing one receiving blanket just in case. I don't know Might need it might not who knows I am bringing her car seat cover. It's just this copper and pearl Like floral car seat cover, so this is washed and ready to go I am bringing this little blanket that has her name and floral all over it Matt's niece got this for her. She had it specially made for her So I figured this would be really good to bring and have in photos put down underneath her and layer on top of it You can also probably swaddle her in this and take a picture in it But I'm gonna use it more of like as a backdrop and take a picture of her. I'm bringing two pairs of socks I'm bringing these little ruffle detail ones and then just these furry Regular socks that are super warm. I'm bringing one little pair of mittens and Those mittens actually match this swaddle This is also from Lulu and company and it's just like this little willow design with little leaves on it And this swaddle I thought would be really pretty with this rust colored bow as well for a picture so I can also use this swaddle when we're leaving to kind of cover her up and keep her warm and Kind of like a blanket and then also in the bag. I'm just bringing a pacifier with the patsy clip I'm probably not gonna end up giving this to her right away But just in case I'm just gonna bring anyways, and then I have a package of water wipes Because like I said the hospital provides everything they're gonna have wipes at the hospital But I knew somebody who gave birth at the hospital where I'm giving birth at and the one Recommendation she gave me was to bring my own wipes So the wipes that they have at that hospital are very dry and for those newborn poops you want something super moist So I'm bringing just a package of water wipes just in case the ones they have don't end up working I have these on hand.
