Rosa Parks cousin Angela "My Life with Rosie" book

Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger in 1955 and it ignited the civil rights movement. Her cousin Dr. Angela Williamson has written a book for children to highlight the relationship Rosa had with her cousin Carolyn Williamson as a child in Detroit. She also reveals the seldom acknowledged legacy of the children activists in that famous Montgomery, AL bus boycott that put a then 26-year-old Martin Luther King, Jr. as the head of the boycott and into the national spotlight.

We interview Dr. Angela at the Folk Music Center in Claremont, CA and she leads us in a sing-a-long of one of the many folk songs that were such and integral part of the civil right movement. We were excited to see Folk Music Center regular and banjo played Ed Helms at the book signing as well.
