Should you do your own window installation? Doesn't matter if you have Anlin, Milgard, Andersen Windows, Pella or Simonton windows. Your home windows are the weakest link of your house. So if your not a experience in construction work.... should consider hiring a professional.

Hey guys, Sean with American Window Concepts and today let's talk about a do it
yourself window installation. Should I? Shouldn't I? Let's get into it.
What I love about YouTube is that you can go on and you can learn how to do
anything. I mean,
I've learned how to play a piano song from Coldplay because I mean it's just
that easy. You hit repeat, hit repeat and you, and you can learn it. Now,
when it comes to window installations,
it's a little bit different because every house is slightly different.
Do you need a retro flange or do you need a block frame or what do you need
exactly? So most homeowners who are not contractors,
they don't really understand.
They can look online and see installing a retro fin window and they're like,
Oh, that looks easy. And it can be, depending on the circumstances,
what type of house, what kind of, do you have stucco? Do you have siding?
Do you have wood pop outs around the window? Do you have stucco pop outs?
I mean, there's,
there's different things that you have to keep in mind whenever you're going to
do a window install.
And these are the things that I am looking for for every specific home that I
visit. It's not like a one size fits all universal aspect to a window install.
When it comes to retro thing. If,
if you're thinking about doing a window install yourself,
you're going to have to keep in mind of all the nuances that are going to go
into a retro fitting replacement. If you're going to do a full tear out,
there's a completely different animal there because now you're doing a
completely different style of measure and there's things that can get in the way
there too. So there may be some homeowners who have, you know,
good experience with fixing up their house, doing different things,
maybe building structures and sheds in the background. I mean,
they just, they understand the construction side of things.
Maybe they have a friend who's kind of taught them,
or they come from a background of maybe some window installation and they're
like, yeah, I'm gonna do it myself. Well, cool.
You're probably more equipped to take care of a window install in your home.
It might be a slower progress, but you're going to get it done.
So if you are a do it yourself or, and you know,
there are avenues that you can go onto online and get more information to
really help you with an installation. And one is like Alma,
you can go on there and you can punch in, in the search bar,
like retro replacing,
and it'll give you basically bullet points and like blueprint of how you should
be doing it. Alma certified installers like myself, you know, uh,
we had to go through a class and a course to just prove that we understand what
it is that we're doing when it comes to a window replacement. Okay.
So that's a good place to look at. How would I do this?
If I'm going to do this myself, try to save the labor, what would I need to do?
What, you know, materials you might, you know,
need to go onto different caulking places and find out what materials are best
for vinyl, or if you're going to use wood or whatever the case is,
we're going to have to know what sealant is best for that window. All right,
guys, not trying to dissuade you from doing your own window install,
but it's not like all window installs are going to be the same.
There's so many variances.
And I just want you to understand that before you roll up them sleeves and get
down into it. All right, guys, if you have questions about this,
I'm happy to help go to the comment section,
leave a note and I'll reach back out as soon as I possibly can.
