Let's get into it.
So when I'm talking about foggy glass,
I'm not talking about the morning dew
that shows up on your window.
What I'm talking about is a seal failure,
a true seal failure.
You have some vinyl windows, maybe some wood windows,
aluminum windows, whatever dual pane window you have
that has the low E coating between the panes
and you start to notice
that you have some discolorations happening
and you're like, oh, I can't get this window clean.
And so we have established that you have a seal failure.
You're like, well, how bad can it be?
What's the downside besides it being unsightly?
There actually is one.
If you have a seal failure,
then the dual pane glass unit that has the problem
actually performs less than two pieces of clear glass.
The performance that you would normally receive
from the low E coating that keeps the heat from coming in
or slows the progress down, it eliminates that.
It's actually worse than having two panes of clear glass.
Your investment that you spent thousands, I'm sure,
on getting brand new windows is no longer actually working.
If you have an XO slider,
one half of your slider is performing worse
than it probably did before.
And then one side is continuing to work properly.
So you have to repair that.
You have to replace that side, the dual pane glass unit,
to get you back to 100% good, right?
So it's performing like it was before.
Now, a lot of window manufacturers will have,
in their warranties, a seal failure replacement clause.
Like if you have this issue, then we will, free of charge,
or maybe a small amount of labor,
come out to your house and replace that for you.
Others, however, may not have that at all.
And now you're stuck paying for the replacement glass.
There are so many neighborhoods that I go around here
that have newer homes built in the early 2000s
that have seal failures all throughout.
It's rampant.
Now, luckily, I know exactly how to take care
and service those customers.
But a lot of people don't understand what the issue is
or what the downside to having that failure is.
And again, it's gonna be performance.
Going to cost you a little bit more in the long run,
but now your window's gonna be back up to par.
It's actually gonna be working properly.
What is it, what's the downside, what's it gonna cost?
It's costing you either the price up front
to get that glass replaced,
which is usually somewhere between a few hundred
to a thousand, just depending on how big the window is,
what grade of low E, is there argon gas between the panes?
All of those things are to be determined,
and that'll set the price for it.
Or you leave it as is, and it's unsightly,
but it's also not performing as well.
So the house isn't as tight of an envelope as it once was.
So there's that.
