Hey, this is the therapist Nomad. Thank you for visiting my channel.
I hope you're ready to see the top things to do in Athens.
You won't believe how much there is to do and see in Athens.
My boyfriend and I stayed in the city for 18 days and I'm sure we didn't get to see it all.
But here is a recollection of the things that tourists enjoy the most.
Enjoy the video and please don't be shy and subscribe to my channel if you like travel videos.
You can't say that you went to Athens if you don't go all the way to the Acropolis.
I have a whole video about our visit to the Acropolis so go check it out.
But for this video I'm going to focus on the various things that you can do around this area.
Hey guys, this is Adrian's Ark.
The Ark stood on a road that connected Athens city center and the site of the temple of Olympian
zoos. So on one side you can see the Acropolis, on the other side you will see the temple of
Olympian zoos. I think this is a perfect spot to begin your journey to Plaka.
Plaka is a maze of narrow streets stretching east of Acropolis hill.
I would describe this district as rainbows and butterflies because it has everything you need
just in one place. Amazing shops, the best ice cream, delicious food and I want to show you a
little bit about my experience here. My favorite ice cream was at Davinci, my favorite shop was
Angelopoulos and in here I got some amazing jewelry so if you want to get some beautiful
authentic greek style jewelry or accessories please come here.
This magnificent walk begins at the Acropolis museum. It has a wonderful view with flowers,
trees and luxury neoclassical houses. Keep in mind that the whole time you're being accompanied by
the view of the Acropolis and then when you reach
Tisio you're going to find a street full of bars, taverns and cafes. Something else to do near the
Acropolis is to visit the big rock beneath the Acropolis. This is where the locals hang out for
a lovely view of the sunset and there's something special about this place that you just can't get
enough of the view and the surroundings around you. No matter what time it is there are always
people here relaxing at the rock and appreciating the beautiful city of Athens.
Make your way to Anafiotika when you go to Arias Pagos, the rock beneath the Acropolis.
Anafiotika is a hidden district in the city of Athens and it's a highlight to any trip
to the Greek capital. However, tourists often miss it. I recommend you visit this area before
or after visiting Arias Pagos, the rock under the Acropolis and in here you will find narrow
passages, century-old orthodox churches, a centurion-like architecture, alleyways,
great food and great views. Just under the Acropolis and towards the north you will also
find the Roman Agora. This area is pretty lively both during the day and night. Grab a drink or
snack around here while you appreciate the history that surrounds you. It costs 6 euros to explore
the monumental site which has inside a marble clock tower which is known as the world's first
meaty rheological station.
Our idea was to go to different bars in the city but we haven't been able to get away from this
beautiful view and we've been walking like two minutes and then going to the next bar
instead of like going all the way down. Just going next door, going next door. We're like
all right let's walk 10 minutes and find the next bar, walk 10 minutes. We get out, go next door,
enter. Yeah because the view is so stunning that we just want to keep it. This is an uninteresting
view right here. Yamas. Yamas and cheers to that. Welcome to the center of Athens.
You're going to be casually walking around the streets of Athens and boom you're going to find
these three fine neoclassical buildings. The Athens Academy, the University and the Library.
You will notice that the buildings have an ancient Greek style and they are too well
preserved to be true and that is why they were actually built around the 1800s soon after part
of Greece got liberated from the Ottoman Empire. If you like Indian food like us I recommend you
pass by the Pink Elephant which is a few minutes away from the neoclassical buildings. Some people
would say that when you have so much history in such a vibrant city why would you waste your time
shopping but Ermou street is still worth visiting. Even if you're not into shopping there's a lot of
energy in this area at all times of the day so come by and take a look. I think there is a change
of guards happening right now. The Greek parliament is located in the old royal palace and is
overlooking the Syntagma square in Athens which is one of the main squares of the entire city.
The changing of the guards is an important ceremony for them and it happens every hour
in the day but on Sundays at 11 in the morning they have an official ceremony of the official
customs. I read in a blogger's page that plaka is fun for your parents but if you're trying to party
you should go to Pissiri. We walked a long way to come to Six Dogs. Mona's Tikri is probably one of
my favorite places in Athens just because it felt so real and authentic to walk the streets of their
flea market and have the wonderful view of the Acropolis. The building that you see in the middle
is an Ottoman mosque built in 1759 which now serves as a museum. This is just another demonstration
that in every corner that you go in the city of Athens you're going to be in contact with history.
The one thing that truly got my heart in this place was having the best gyros in the city.
Check this out. The trendy gassy area centers on Technopolis which is a converted Qigong
with interactive industrial gas museums, contemporary art spaces, concert venue,
hosting indie jazz and world music. The streets are full of taverns, gay oriented bars, clubs that
buzz until daybreak and local galleries and quirky shops and unsurprisingly they have delicious
food. If you find an Airbnb in this area don't be afraid. Take it and it is just five minutes away
from Plaka and the Acropolis in the Acropolis metro station which is perfect. This is where we
stayed. Our hosts were absolutely amazing and my two favorite places here were Flat White Artesano
Coffee and Veginaki. This is a pretty hippie area full of unique cafes, organic food, boutiques,
wall art, taverns and cool streets. Oh and I almost forgot about another favorite in the area,
Kalimaki Bar. You gotta come here. Ten minutes away from our apartment walking we had the National
Garden which is so pretty. It's the perfect place to have a picnic or bring the kids to run around.
In the National Garden you will find dog ponds, a botanical museum, a small cafe,
a children's library and playground and also some ancient ruins.
Guys I am super excited to announce that we found our workout stuff. If you know me and you know
Nico you know that we like to work out and not working out is a problem every time we switch
countries or cities because we have to find our new place and after three days of searching and
asking we found the best place. Look at this. What else can you ask for? Here is my crazy monkey
on the rope but other than that guys I know that you can enter the museum and pay for the ticket
but we honestly had a great time coming up the hill and seeing it from this view which is amazing
and just so you know this is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble. So that is a
total of 16 places to visit in Athens without even considering museums. I hope this video gives you
enough ideas of what to do with your time in Athens but whatever you do do not underestimate
this city. Don't make this a short visit. This city will truly surprise you with its uniqueness
making you wanting to be here longer than you planned. If you like this video give it
a thumbs up and I hope to see you next week on another video.
