Those are the two reasons I need pants.
Yeah.
Like my German accent is awesome.
You won't look like you're in the matrix, but what's up everyone.
I am interesting and I retired in 2021 to travel and eat full time.
And today I'm going to be talking about travel pants.
If you don't know what those are, what that means, I will
illuminate that in today's video.
If you enjoy this video, consider liking or commenting.
And if you want to see more videos like this or want to see my journey
or where we go next, consider subscribing.
So if you've seen any of my videos before, my travel vlogs, you know, we
travel most of the time and we travel light.
So for most of the year, we are living out of a carry on and a small backpack.
So space is at a premium and I don't wear pants a lot.
I wear shorts 99% of the time, but there are some use cases and times
where I think pants are necessary.
The main one are on travel days.
Airports and airplanes are typically so freaking cold.
And then the second one is occasionally, you know, we're eating nicer.
We're not always doing street tacos or street foods.
So a pair of pants might be in the cards.
Those are the two reasons I need pants.
And then the reason I need travel pants are I need something that kind of is
packable that serves multiple purposes are technical.
So, so that's how this video started.
We are leaving for a three and a half month Europe trip in two weeks.
So I've been scouring the interwebs for different brands, different blog posts
on what do travel pants exist?
What are the best travel pants?
And as usual companies or blogs like Gear Patrol, High Consumption, all the,
uh, average offenders, common offenders, typical offenders came through.
So I have a stack of five pants.
They are from three brands.
I have tried them all on and then I'll link to everything in case
you want to check any of this out.
And this is my honest review.
So let's get into the first pair of pants.
So basically after scouring a handful of these lists, uh, I took a deeper look
and I was looking for something that's like a technical material, more or less.
I didn't want to wear something that's like a Chino or a jean, but I didn't
want something like too thick or athletic, like a, a typical like
sweat pant or jogger that's cotton.
So I was looking for something that looked like it could be active and I
could like walk or maybe run, do something, you know, active.
I'm like running to the airport and stuff and don't want to sweat, but also
something that looked pants like enough that you could wear it to a restaurant
or it didn't look bizarre that you were wearing.
I'm going to start with this pants.
So these are Outdoor Voices Rektrek.
I'm now noticing you can't see anything.
So editor version of me, please help out.
But what I liked about these were I didn't plan to get black pants, but I
ended up liking these on the model.
They have two zip pockets on the front, which is basically a criteria for me.
When I'm carrying a passport, a phone, when you're just having a lot of stuff,
I don't want any chance on like sitting down and things falling out.
So at least one, if not three zip pockets was like very key for me.
These, the length is really good and it's, it is a technical material.
So it's kind of windbreakery.
It's not a cotton, it's not like a linen or anything.
So these kind of skew more athleisure or athletic than some of the other options.
And that is no surprise.
That's kind of Outdoor Voices shtick.
And while I did like these, I actually ordered these in both
their small and extra small.
So two of the five pants are the same.
And the extra small, the waist fit, but they're a little tight.
I want these to sit on my waist, but not be too loose.
Cause like you're running around, you've got full pockets.
So the small actually fit well.
What I didn't like about these is they seemed a little too sporty or they
didn't seem like hybrid enough to wear to a restaurant.
Maybe you can get away with it, but this is more like you're
grabbing coffee or something.
It's more athleisurely.
And while they were probably the lightest and maybe they're very
comfortable, they just, I didn't love them.
And you know, Marie Kondo or whatever, if you don't feel joy, especially when
I'm trying to choose one pair of pants, uh, they didn't work for me.
I do think they'll work for a lot of you.
They came in a little under a hundred dollars per pair.
You can typically find some promotions and coupons on the interweb.
Okay.
So that was pant one.
I think these were actually the third ones I tried on.
The next ones are the first pair I tried on.
I really liked them.
Let's talk about those.
So these are the Rourke Layover Travel Pants 2.0.
Did I say travel pant and they're not?
They're the Layover 2.0 pant.
So these actually have the word layover, like they're made to travel in.
The first thing you'll notice are these are not black.
I don't know if there's black, brown color blindness.
So if I'm being a dick, it's unintentional.
What I like about these are they are more technical.
So these look more pant like, but they have technical details.
So these have those like laser etched, like for breathability.
So I like things like that.
They have two zip pockets on the front, which are very nice.
And in the beginning, I didn't know how I felt about this adjustable tie waistband,
but these are a little loose, so it's necessary.
So these are a 30 and to go smaller, you have to go 28.
The only thing that wasn't perfect about these are, I think
they're a little big for me.
So even tying them pretty tight, they're a little loose.
So I have ordered the, these in a different color in 28.
See what I think.
I think I might actually end up keeping these and I got two colors.
These are dark khaki.
These are military and I like both of them.
What I like about this is these look like pants, but they're not just like
a khaki or cotton or anything.
They're not like, just like a chino.
They feel technical, both on the, the front zips.
And then there's even stuff like there's like a little like key thing you can have
here, the tie waist, the zips, and then the laser etched on the back.
So I really think they did a mindful job in thinking and crafting these.
And they're also just so comfortable and like look pretty good
that I think they can do things.
They are not as technical as the next pair of pants.
So let's get into those.
Something else to mention about these pants and the next ones I bought, or I
originally found these on Huckberry's website, Huckberry just carries a ton of
cool stuff.
They didn't have my size.
So I ended up buying these directly through Rourke.
Again, pro tip before you buy things online, do a quick Google search of the
name of the company or where you're buying them and promo or discount code.
Do a little extra work, click the first three links and just do a little clicking.
I think I was able to find discount codes on almost everything and just a little
effort to get 10, 15, and even sometimes 25% off, spend the time, unless you're
just balling, then ignore.
Okay.
These last pants, I love the name.
I love everything about them.
They're, they're probably too cool for me.
I got these off Huckberry's website.
These are the Foehn, F-O-E-H-N, sounds like Icelandic.
I don't know.
I think they're actually, yeah, a French company out of Quebec.
And I got these off of Huckberry and after I ordered them on Huckberry, I ended up
checking the, their own website, Foehn, and it turns out they sell their pants
in different inseam lengths.
Huckberry doesn't tell you that.
So I ordered these in size 30.
It turns out these are the 32 inseam.
So I, we'll get to that in a second.
What I love about these are these are by far the most technical.
They use this Swiss technology called Schuller.
Yeah.
Like my German accent's awesome.
And it's basically a technical material that repels water, has like a little stretch.
It's just like very cool.
And the other thing I liked about these is they have a zip pocket on the front
thigh, so kind of streetwear-esque and it's not gimmicky.
Like it is a massive pocket.
Like it is as big as you can see there.
So you can easily fit a passport, your phone, your boarding pass.
And I like that.
The thing I didn't realize on the website and until I got these, these
are the only pair, and man, lighting's tough.
These have belt loops.
Not only do they have belt loops, like the back pocket, and man, I'm going to
have to just show some screenshots or something, these look like pants.
Like these look like a nice pair of either black jeans or like chinos.
And what's also awesome about these, these are very light.
The waist actually fits better than any of the other pants.
And my only gripe is they're a little long and they're only a little long
because I didn't know the inseam was 32.
So I, I ordered another pair of these from Foen's website direct this morning.
They had a 30 inseam.
I actually signed up for like a, let me know when these are in
stock last weekend and they came in.
They might not get here before our trip.
And if that's the case, you'll see me in New York's last thing
I'll say about these Foen.
They also have like kind of this, this jogger vibe here.
And then they have this like zippable thing here to like expand.
So if you wanted to wear that on over boots, if you wanted to wear these and
like you're running around, you're hot.
I believe in these pants the most because all their website photos are people rock
climbing and mountain climbing in these.
So not only do they like look cool and you can like hang out and go to dinner
in them, like these are extreme.
These are very technical.
I forgot to share the prices on the other ones.
So the outdoor voices pants, the first pants were a little under a hundred
dollars, I think like $98 these Rourke 2.0 travel pants.
I keep saying the wrong thing.
Layover pants were $95.
I think you can get some of those on Huckberry on sale, but
they don't have a lot of sizes.
So the first two are basically a hundred dollars, which inflation and I didn't
know pants cost that much, but you know what these Foen, Brees, Schuler, and
I'm butchering the name, but the Foen pants, the last ones, the super
technical ones, these are $130.
So they cost more, but they're the most interesting fabric type of the three.
Like as soon as I tried on the outdoor voices ones, they're
like my instant return.
There are things I like about them, but they didn't check as
many boxes as the other two.
The thing I liked about Rourke are they look like pants.
I think they were really mindfully or thoughtfully crafted for travel.
And, and so I might keep a pair of those when I try on the 28 waist and it's so
tricky because like, I think I'm a 29 waist.
You don't care, but it's frustrating that companies do like 28 and 30 and there
just must not be enough people in there.
If they fit perfectly, it would have been a slam dunk.
Why do I start saying that?
I just really liked the construction, the zip, the kind of
like laser etch on the back.
I like both colors.
So if I can figure out the fit, I can see myself keeping one or two of these.
And for sure, if the Foen don't come in on time, I will just be
choosing something and going with it.
My favorite pants.
And these will not be for everyone because these are like, you won't
look like you're in the matrix, but they're very technical and I just love them.
They fit so comfortably.
They're not too much.
They look like pants.
I really liked that zip on the quad.
And the only problem was that with them, are there a little long?
And if they didn't make the other ones, I'd probably keep these.
But the fact that they do have that inseam that is two inches shorter,
I think they're going to be perfect.
So if those arrive on time or if they don't, I will be keeping the
Foen Breeze Shuler pants, and I might keep some of these RORC layover pants
just because I think they solve a different use case and they're just
something they're both comfortable.
You can like wear out casually.
You could like definitely work out in the Foen ones.
And then these are just a good pair of pants.
I have talked a lot.
I was like, how am I going to do a video?
That's not just like four or five minutes on three pairs of pants.
This is half.
So please let me know what you think in the comments.
I, as someone who travels quite a bit or like my life is, you know, going
from Airbnb to Airbnb every month and this summer, every three to seven
nights, finding a travel pant or something that kind of works multiple
use cases is very, very important to me.
Let me know if you've thought about looking for a pant for, you know, if
you're flying on like a 15 hour flight, or you're going to hit the ground
running to like do a quick week when we're friends, let me know if this is
something you've ever thought about.
Let me know if you want more photos or videos of the items themselves.
Any feedback is very positive.
I am also, and I'll just show you, this is my entryway right now of
all the sandals we're trying to get.
So we're going through trying to find the perfect kind of one pair
of sandals for our Europe trip.
I'm only really between two models of Tevas, the XLT2 Hurricanes and these
new Zymex, I didn't want to make a whole video there, but if travel gear
or packing or what kind of gear I have or how I pack or how much stuff I
take is of interest, please let me know because it's very core to our
lifestyle right now.
I don't like calling us nomads or nomadic because I think it's such
like a hot word or buzzword, but we are basically homeless.
We travel all the time.
We have to pack light out of necessity.
So finding high quality clothes and items and goods to like last and go
through our lifestyle is important.
So let me know what you think.
This is part of like my new Wednesdays.
I'm going to try to do different stuff.
That's not just vlogs to like let you into this life.
I'm just kind of throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks.
So any feedback is great.
Thanks for hanging out.
We'll see you next Wednesday with another video and we'll see you
this Saturday with another vlog.
