All right today we will be touring Centro, Mexico City's historic and cultural neighborhood.
We'll start off by going to a famous bakery to get a snack while we wait to head over to my
absolute number one recommendation in all of the city. After that we'll head to the Zocalo
where we'll see the cathedral. Then we'll end the video exploring the ruins. Let's go!
Passing through Alameda park on the way to breakfast we're entering Centro City.
Now in Centro, just about three blocks from breakfast, might stop into a bakery if there's
a long wait.
So this is the coca.
Very flaky, like the caramelized fruit in the middle.
Not getting a ton of that flavor.
It's kind of creamy, fruity.
Eh, not bad.
You've got like the burnt sugar layer on top that gives it a crunchy note, and then you
just get a ton of really rich, light cream, and then a little texture on bottom.
It's like custard.
It's like a biscuit.
Very custardy, creamy, delicious.
This is bomb.
The steak is super tender.
The tortilla looks, you know, handmade.
It like popped up, so the two layers are separated.
The beans are nice and rich, refried.
You get the texture from the chip, and then good sauce.
Thinly sliced, onion for texture and bite, and then the fresh cheese.
Perfect.
The meat is perfectly tender.
It's like well done.
There's no redneck, but really nice, I don't know, fat or flavoring on it.
Perfect temperature, not too chewy.
Excellent.
Not the best bread you'll ever eat.
I lied.
Pieces of the meat are pretty like rare, medium rare.
I just updated the video.
This is the omelette flor de calabaza.
Really nice texture.
The sauce is nice.
This tastes very veggie-y and clean.
Nice cheese coming through there, and then the cake, you know, there's actual corn in
the cake this time.
Bright, cakey in a good way.
Getting this red sauce flavor, and then also the nice cheese on here, and then like a little
bean stew, little bean soup.
Nice and light.
You get the texture from the beans individually, and overall, everything's really good.
Pro tip, if you don't want to wait, you can always go to the one in the Hilton near Alameda
Park.
This is a CDMX sign.
Behind me, you can see the cathedral.
I think it's like the second largest in all of Latin America.
There are Diego Rivera murals.
We don't have our IDs, so we can't get in.
Heading back to the Zocalo, and potentially going to see the ruins from the outside.
Next week, join us for part two, which I think is the best video yet.
We'll start at the Grand Hotel before returning to the Balcón del Zocalo's rooftop.
From there, we'll head over to Azul Histórico before grabbing a drink at a different rooftop
bar.
Then we'll grab a midday snack before heading to my number one taco spot in Mexico City.
Then we will visit Parque and Barrio Alameda, where we will get some cocktails and finish
off with dinner.
See you then.
