What's up Team Buckeyes, Jonathan Buckeyes here.
And in today's video,
I'm going to give you five reasons
why your snowboard carves suck.
Sounds a little brutal, but let's help you out.
Let's get your carves tightened up,
looking good so you can snowboard like this.
Reason number one is you're probably back foot ruddering
and you don't even know it.
You're getting down the mountain.
You're going from edge to edge.
You're feeling good,
but you're just like a window wiper out there.
Just huh, huh, huh, huh.
And you're not really like setting an edge
and riding that edge.
What you want to do is identify that and stop doing it.
Set an edge and hold an edge.
All right, reason number two why your carving sucks
is you have your shoulder wide open.
You're literally riding down the mountain
with your shoulder like this.
This is a horrible body position.
We want to be in a stacked body position
with our shoulders aligned with our snowboard.
We do not want this front shoulder super open,
put you in a really bad position,
makes you kind of sit on your back leg,
which doesn't help that back foot ruddering.
So stacked position, board parallel,
or shoulders parallel with your board.
Like this, like this is terrible.
We don't want to be in this position.
This sucks.
Line those shoulders up.
Now, before I tell you reason number three,
consider snagging an Evolution sticker.
We have so many colors and variants.
And if you're a skier and some reason watching this video,
we have a ski version.
We also have the windbreakers now available.
Any of the merch you guys purchase, guys,
it supports the dream and lets me do this for a living.
So thank you to everyone that is snagging the merch,
but also let everyone know you're part of Team Huck House
by throwing it on your helmet,
being like, yo, we out here.
Team Huck House for life.
Now reason number three,
why your snowboard carves suck,
is you're bending at your waist.
You're literally in this position right here
and you're trying to carve
and it's not a good body position.
Once again, shoulders up parallel with your board.
Don't bend at your waist, right here.
If I'm bent at the waist right now,
I did terrible.
Barely can see what's going on.
Slipping out.
Bring your shoulders up.
So reason number four,
and arguably this is the most important reason,
is you're not knee steering.
So when it comes to snowboard carving,
your turn initiates with your front knee.
So when you're going onto your heel side,
you should be, think of it like
you're opening a door with your knee.
So you're opening the door
and then when you're ready to go back to your toes,
you're stomping on a bug.
Every turn, open, close.
It starts with the front knee, not the back.
So we're here, turn, open, close,
and then you're gonna be ripping.
So front knee steering, it sounds weird.
It's gonna take a little bit to kind of figure out,
but practice it.
Once again, opening a door with your knee,
closing it like stomping on a bug, okay?
All right, so we're gonna open the door,
stomp the bug, open the door,
stomp the bug, door, bug, door, bug.
And reason number five, the last reason,
is you are not smashing the subscribe button
and hitting like over here.
I am lying to you, that's not the reason,
but you should do that.
Now reason number five of why your snowboard carves suck
is you're not feeling it.
It is the most surfy, like natural,
vibey thing you're gonna do on your snowboard,
is the carve.
Once you start really getting those turns,
your full body gets into it,
and it is truly a feeling.
And like my buddy, Chris,
was showing me the carves the other day,
and I was like, yo dude,
you just gotta give it some oomph, some swagger.
When you're de-weighting your edges,
kind of get up a little bit and pump back into it.
So give it some like swag, you know?
Like really feel it.
A camber snowboard is also gonna help your carves,
because you can really get the feedback
from your snowboard when you're in those turns.
So feel out your snowboard.
So I'm like standing here,
I'm not really feeling anything.
I'm gonna get into this,
and I'm like, okay, hold on.
Wait, wait, wait.
Ooh, yeah, I feel that, man.
Oh, son.
I'm vibing this.
Oh, the pumps, the turns.
It feels so good.
I'm gonna go to my switch now.
I'm gonna come back.
The attitude.
The turns.
Get my hand down, drag a little bit.
It's like, ah, son.
In all reality, at the end of the day,
no-win snowboard carves suck.
We're all learning.
It's just a great title.
Get out there and practice these five things.
There are way more stuff to snowboard carving.
So check out other snowboard YouTubers out there, too.
They're making incredible content.
But the last tip, the bonus, the tip number six,
and yeah, you guys are gonna hate to hear this.
Time on snow.
The more you snowboard,
the better you're gonna get at it.
So don't get frustrated if you only go in once a week
or maybe you go twice a month
and you're not getting your carves yet.
Just know it's gonna take a little bit, guys.
But with all that, Tim Alcaz,
thank you so much for shredding with me today.
And as always, thanks for watching.
Keep evolving.
We'll see you guys tomorrow with another video
because it's daily on this channel.
