(graphic) — Frozen dead animal market of Siberia (-42°)
Hey guys, welcome back to the channel. It's a nice cold afternoon here in Yakutsk.
I love how everything is covered in snow, it's like this. It's just so, it all comes off.
It's just from the moisture in the air. Today I have a cool place though. My phone,
I don't know how long the GoPro's gonna last because of the cold, it's about minus 42 or
something today, but we're at the fish market. So this is a special kind of Siberian fish.
All of these fish are caught out and then they don't even have to kill them or anything because
the fish just basically freeze right away. A whole bunch of them. A bunch of these guys.
Um, a whole bunch of berries. These are special, um, from Siberia. These are, uh, called, um,
uh, buck, sea buckberry or something like this, from a Siberian tree. It's really interesting
to look at these fish. Like I said, none of them are killed. I mean,
they just pulled straight out of their freeze before they can do anything.
Yeah, it is, but okay, that's what I thought they were. Are they cats or rabbits? Oh,
they look like rabbits. Oh, look, we got some ducks too. I'm sure, literally, I keep thinking,
keep thinking that they're fake. Like, I want to think that they're fake because they look like it,
but this would be, it's the price of one, the price of one. I'm going to use my glove because
I don't want to really touch it, but the price of one dead rabbit is, um, this would be something
like, uh, 30 bucks. Where are you from? I'm from California. California or Alaska? Chicago.
What do we got here? These look like feet. I don't know what they're like.
Cow?
Tobogans. Look at a bunch of fish over here. It just keeps going on and on and on and on.
So, um, I'll see if I can find some. I'll see if I can find some later on so we can actually eat it,
but, um, basically the way that this works is that, uh, they have the frozen fish like this.
Um, you bring it inside and then you have, like, a carving knife and so then they're going to crop
up the fish between your legs and you use the carving knife and you cut down, uh, in slices.
So you get slices of frozen fish. We could get some more hooks. I'm not sure what they're eating
Yes, American. American.
Chicago.
I go, um, Omicron.
Minus 20.
Look at these guys. They're just completely frozen. It's like rock. I don't even know
what this is. It's just, this is just a straight block of frozen fish. You can see some of the
individual fish in here, but look, it's just totally frozen. Oh, these are mushrooms.
At least that's normal. We get, I'm thinking if you really wanted to, I could pick up one
of these fish. You know, you could totally just use them as a, you could use these fish as a
bat, actually. Hit the whole frozen fish. You play baseball with these bad boys.
Okay, I'm gonna go find Shubham. Thankfully, there's a place to come inside and, uh,
come warm up, but it's actually, it's not, not so, so bad. We're getting used to the cold now,
so it, it, um, doesn't hurt my fingers. Yeah, actually, that's really a good way to put it.
It's not cold for us, but for our cameras, they're gonna both die within, you know, five minutes,
seven minutes, something like this. So, um, but there is an indoor area also,
which is actually, you know, good timing, uh, because, uh, it's just normal kind of stuff.
Did not look very enthused to see me. Um, I think you can also buy fish though inside.
This looks like a salon over here. Electronics. No, keys, actually. Um, we did talk to this one
guy. This guy will cut some up for me. Um, so we'll get some fresh, fresh fish. There's a little
bit more over here. Um, like this guy right behind me is selling, uh, um, meat, uh, like cow and this
kind of stuff. But what's really interesting to me, the intriguing thing about this whole market
is the fact that just because it's so freezing cold here, you can kill an animal and then just
leave it outside and it's, you know, four times colder than a freezer here. But like I said, I
mean, you can just put it outside and it just, it immediately freezes out here. These look like, uh,
ribs, maybe. It's amazing. It's a really, really fascinating place.
Right now we're trying to find the perfect fish, uh, for Shubham to slice up and that we can eat
here on the spot. But, um, all of these fish, they're all, they're all so big,
of the way he uses and pokes it around and everything.
It's so interesting how you can, I mean, you can probably hammer in a nail with a fish,
but, uh, each one of these fish, this is, uh, this is like five bucks.
Do you want to have a fight?
Ow, it actually hurts. It hurts.
You're damaging the product, breaking the eyes off. I decided, um, I'm just, I'm not gonna,
he cracked the fish in half. I don't know how a fish breaks in half, but okay.
Real brother. All right, so we got our fish mission accomplished
from our nice friend Ruslan. Ruslan speaks actually great English.
Anything you'd like to say? Welcome to Yakutsk. Thank you. Thank you, brother. Nice to meet you.
All right, we're gonna get just a tiny bit more fish. Um, Shubham wants to get it,
my eyelids are freezing shut. I don't know if you can see it, but, uh, Shubham wants to get some,
uh, some fish that are cut up into cubes. So we can go get some of that as well.
Okay, that's going to finish it for today's video. The entire market is packing up.
As you can see, it's very late. It's dark here. So all the fish packing up. I was playing baseball
with one of the really big guys. So that's fun. I like this place. It's actually pretty cool. I've
never seen anything like this anywhere else in the world. So I guess you have to come to Yakutsk
to come see the frozen fish market. It's really, really cool.
