The Hidden Gem of Mexico | Palenque, Chiapas

Good morning! Good morning! It is a beautiful day in Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico. I'm here with my friend Lawrence. You may recognize him from the villa vlogs. And we arrived on a night bus this morning to Palenque from San Cristobal de las Casas, which was kind of like a little city in the mountains. And it was kind of cool, but very cold. And now we are in the warm and humid jungle, and we're going to go explore for a few days. So, let's go! So, we just arrived at this really beautiful cafe, sort of in the little touristy jungle area of Palenque, and we both got lots of food. We got the same thing, enchilada suiza with the salsa verde, and it looks amazing. But we're just kind of like regaining our strength, and then we're going to go on this like tour thing to a waterfall, and we're going to go and swim in the waterfall and explore more of the jungle. And I'm really excited we decided to do that just because like we're really tired from the night bus, so the least decisions we have to make, the better. So, we're kind of just going with the flow, and we're going to go explore as much as we can. But first, lunch! If you're claustrophobic, you're going to die in here. Oh, no, I love small spaces. Can you translate quick? Yeah, you have to swim two meters to like six feet, and you have to push with your legs. We just got back to Palenque from the waterfalls, which were absolutely beautiful. We ended up meeting a local there who decided to guide us through the waterfalls. We jumped down them, we like swam under them, and got to like slide down some. It was pretty amazing. I will leave all of the details about that in the description below because that was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Anyways, now we are waiting around in the middle of the jungle, or correction, I am waiting around in the middle of the jungle. Lawrence is off trying to find us a cabana to stay in for the night. I'm not quite sure. Everything seems pretty full because it's the weekend, but we're gonna find something. I have faith. Anyways, it's pretty amazing being here in the jungle and like more tropical temperatures because I've been in sweaters for like way too long. Bad time to start filming? Yeah, just don't. Guess what? Can you guess what? No. Oh. I'm gonna walk there first. You're gonna walk there first? See? So guess what? Guess what? We got a room. Woo! We did it. It's so beautiful. Good morning, good morning. It is another beautiful day in Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico, and today Lawrence and I are headed off to the archaeological ruins here. We had an amazing breakfast this morning and got lots of sleep last night except for I woke up at like 4 30 a.m hearing the howler monkeys and thinking that they were jaguar and I kind of freaked out, but turns out they were howler monkeys and we're all good. So that was a fun way to start our time here, but now we're gonna go explore the ruins and see what's up. So we were just walking along the main road to the ruins and we found this little path in the woods and we decided to go and explore and along the way we met the cutest little dog. Oh my gosh. There's a beautiful little waterfall and like a swimming hole and I'm definitely gonna come back here and explore a lot more. We might try to walk to the ruins this way. I don't think we'll make it there, but we'll see. We'll see. Anyways, this dog is coming with us. So we made it to the main part of the ruins and we're just sitting under this big tree and we're gonna be eating some like mandarin oranges that we bought yesterday and just taking it all in because it is so incredibly beautiful here. It is also really really hot so we kind of have to pace ourselves and I think we're kind of leaning more towards the more hidden temples that are just in the woods and stuff because they're much more pleasant to visit because it's a lot more shady. Anyways, it is absolutely incredible here. We've been learning a lot about all of the Mayan history and what took place here and yeah, it's really amazing. I think they kind of had it right.
