Hi guys today we are in Nuevo Polanco and I am so excited to show you around so let's go.
Nuevo Polanco is an area very close to Polanco that's full of large corporations, luxury apartment
buildings, museums, and shopping areas. It's especially known for being the headquarters
of Grupo Carso, the largest conglomerate in Mexico. Part of Grupo Carso is Museo Sumaya
which is this stunning piece of architecture that was built in 1994. We started our visit from the
very top which ended up being our favorite since it houses art pieces from European artists from
the 15th to 20th century. Okay we are inside Museo Sumaya right now which is owned by Carlos Slim.
It's actually free to get inside of here every single day so completely free public museum.
In this museum you'll see just some of Carlos Slim's personal collection of artwork that he
and his wife who are art curators built up over the time. His wife actually passed away so he
had this museum built named after her. Her name was Sumaya. It's really really impressive being
in here. I can't believe the artwork and the artists that he has in here like Edgar Degas
and he has some handwritten letters from Napoleon Bonaparte and we've seen some other really really
impressive stuff and we're just now at the very beginning of it. So yeah it is very impressive
and we are going to continue walking around now and checking everything out.
Well honestly that museum was better than I expected and as we had already said it's free
so 100% recommended 100% worth it. There were definitely some impressive pieces in there that
I was not expecting to see so yeah that was really great. I feel like it's been a little bit under
hyped but we definitely enjoyed it a lot. The museum as we had mentioned before is owned by
Carlos Slim and if you don't know who that is that is the richest man in Mexico. He is the owner
of the biggest telephone company one of the biggest in the world. He also owns a bank, he owns
the museum of course, he owns behind it a mall called Plaza Carso which has the Sanborns which
he also owns. There's just a lot here in this area of Nuevo Polanco that Carlos Slim owns so
he's definitely an integral part of this part of Mexico City.
I wanted to show you this so you could see the prices for yourself but I would say that the
average is around something like two thousand US dollars to rent an apartment in this area.
Of course this is relatively high especially for Mexico but with it being such a nice area it sort
of makes sense. It's also a very new area so the buildings will be very new and the apartments are
of course luxurious so they come with really nice amenities such as really nice pools and gyms.
Usually when people visit these more wealthy neighborhoods they're expecting to spend a lot
of money because that's what people mention a lot but honestly you don't need a lot of money to come
here. In fact the last time that we made a video here in Polanco we were really broke. Walking is
free, it's really walkable here. The museum we just went to, Sumaya, is free so it's the Jumex
museum. Movies are cheap and there are cheap food options. I think it's really important to have a
wealth money mindset to attract more wealth into your life. I'm not claiming that you can manifest
money at all but I think a lot of how you feel affects your experience in life. Okay let's move on.
Okay we are at the mall now. What mall are we at? We are in Antara Fashion Hall which is right across
the street from Sumaya which just goes to show you that Nuevo Polanco is this very very small
dense area that has a lot of really cool places to visit. This mall is more of a luxury mall. It has a
lot of luxury stores here. We have now come to another mall because there just wasn't that much
to do in the other one but window shopping is always fun and I also just really like
checking out all of these amazing malls that Mexico has. There's literally so many of them
and they're like so nice. Almost every single mall that we've been to here has been like
the nicest one that I've seen in my life. Exactly. Now what mall are we at? We have made it to Mijana
I think is what it's called and what's really special about this mall is that it's pet friendly
and they also have a Cinepolis VIP. We are going to see the movie Cruella. It just came out
and my favorite way to go see a movie is in the VIP because they have like reclining super
cushioned relaxing chairs. You can like press a button and order popcorn and food from your chair.
It's just a really nice experience. We actually have a whole video where we went to another
Cinepolis VIP so if you want to look into that in more detail you can go check that video out.
That will be linked in an info card right here. So the cost for the VIP movie is only nine dollars
which I think is pretty freaking great because it's a really really nice experience.
So one really cool thing about this mall is they're actually pet friendly and they have
little stations set up with sanitizing stuff and wipes so if your dog has an accident you can clean
it up and I just think it's really cool that they actually provide that. Before moving to Mexico we
had sort of an anti-mall ideology because we've always been very mindful about our purchases
and in our minds the only reason to go to a mall was to go shopping. But after moving here and
getting to visit several different malls we've realized how different they are. Obviously there's
still a lot of shopping that you can do at these malls but it's not just that. A lot of these malls
also include options of going to cafes, restaurants, movie theaters, gyms, some even offer cool gaming
areas and mostly I think what stands out is that they just have nice places to hang out.
So the point in saying all this is that if you already don't like malls don't immediately dismiss
going to one in Mexico because they are different and they offer different activities.
Today we visited two malls because that is what you do in Polanco and we are here to see a VIP
movie at Cinepolis VIP. So what do you think Quyen? I really liked that movie. I really enjoyed the
movie. The experience was so nice. I really liked 101 Dalmatians growing up. I thought Cruella
was a very interesting character so getting to see her background was really cool. She's
a very cool villain. And what about the fashion element? Loved the fashion element. I was not
expecting it to be that prevalent in the movie but I really really enjoyed it. And I would say
that if you are in Mexico definitely try to hit up a VIP movie theater because although it is more
expensive than other movie theaters in Mexico it's only like nine dollars and in the U.S. that's
cheaper than like a regular movie theater and sometimes they're really bad in the U.S.
So you get to have a really really nice luxurious experience if you're visiting Mexico.
Just make sure that the movie is subtitled and not in Spanish if you don't already know Spanish
because otherwise they will be dubbed and if you don't know Spanish then that's an issue obviously.
Since we were so close by to Polanco we went ahead and walked a few blocks to Avenida Masaric
which is this famous road with all the luxurious or high-end shopping experiences. A lot of people
compare it to Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles. So lots of high-end stores which are just fun to look at.
So a couple other things in the area that we didn't actually have time to do but you definitely
could do is go to Museo Fumax which was right across the street from the museum we were at
eating at a nice restaurant and of course obviously actually shopping at all of the
options that you have here. Since Nuevo Polanco and Polanco are so close by to each other you
might be tempted to try to visit both of them in one day and although this is definitely doable
we would not recommend doing this because just Sumaya museum alone you could have spent the
entire day there. So if you're going to do that plus visit Fumax plus do a little bit of shopping
in Nuevo Polanco you really should dedicate an entire day to Nuevo Polanco and Polanco should
be its own day as well. But if you're crazy and have a lot of energy I would say it is doable.
Okay we want to know would you live here? I don't know if we would. I mean if we were to move out
of Roma where we are now I don't think we would think about moving to the Polanco area. Probably
not. But would you and if not there where else in Mexico City would you consider moving to?
We have made some videos about different neighborhoods here in Mexico City so you
can check them out here on the screen and as always make sure you're subscribed to our
channel turn on notifications and we will see you next Sunday. Bye!
