Ideally we have to eat light for a week to give digestive system a little rest but we do complete opposite.

Nutritionist have also told that "fasting allows the gut to cleanse and strengthens its lining”.

What not to eat during fasting:

Packaged fasting foods - complete no - they are high in unhealthy fats, transfats, refined sugar and what not.

Sugary Drinks - they have more sugar than we know - homemade simple nimbu pani is still better

Milk products - while our purpose during fasting is to eat light and detoxify - tea, paneer and khoya products does completely opposite.

Deep fried stuff - again we have to eat light no matter it is cooked in Ghee or high valued oil.
Eating more than desired - we eat out of taste not appetite

What to eat during fasting for best results:

The one thumb rule of fasting is to have alkaline diet and that was the reason of taking grains off the diet while fasting. Flour like singhada and kuttu were added because they are obtained from fruits and grain which are alkaline in nature.

Fruits in the form of salads - mix and match fruits of choice and top it up choice of nuts and seeds and fasting allowed seasoning.
Smoothies - use different fruits and make colour full smoothies and smoothie bowls and top it up with choice of fruits, nuts and seeds.
Veggies salad - Raw Salad by mixing fasting allowed grains like samak rice or Rajgir grain with homemade mint/coriander dressing.
You can even make salad with lightly sautéed veggies like brocoli, colourful peppers, baby potatoes and more - drizzle it with homemade cashew sauce.
For savoury dishes Sago which is sabudana is very good option:
Make sabudana Tikki in appe pan which uses less oil, prepare the mix with roasted peanuts, boiled potatoes and spices of choice.
Nutritious sabudana khichadi can also be prepared with tempering of cumin and green chillies mixed with choice of veggies.
Make chila with kuttu atta and serve it with potato curry and raw veggie salad.
Makhane or samak rice Puddings can be prepared using natural sugar and plant based milk/yogurt and topped up with choice of fruits, nuts and seeds.
For snacks - roasted makhane and peanuts goes very well.
Make banana chips in air fryer after soaking the slices in salt and turmeric water for an hour.
