This is the Andres Segovia show.
Everyone has Andres and I'm coming at you with the huge Qlipse communicator
updates, and I'm excited to go through some of these things with you, but right
out the back, cause there's so much to cover.
This is going to be shipping right out of the box with Android 17.
Also announced was a bump up in RAM.
So the Qlipse communicator was originally going to launch
with eight gigabytes of RAM.
Now it's 12.
The battery has been bumped up and in doing so they switched the technology
from silicon over to lithium ion battery with about a rated for like 800 charges.
So we'll see how all that holds up.
But the point is a lot of exciting things that were announced today.
If you have been on the reservation list, when you got on like yours truly did, you
should have received an email where you can now customize your order and get it
in by September 30th so they can make sure to have yours, how you want it and
ready to go.
So, oh, this is exciting stuff.
I did mine.
As soon as I saw that email, I immediately customized mine.
There's some great coverage to pick from, and I can't wait to finally get this in
my hands around Christmas because that's when they're intending to launch.
But some other updates they also gave, which were really interesting because I
didn't see the video of the updates until after I customized it.
So one of them is Qlipse mobile.
So let me get to this part right here, Qlipse care and Qlipse mobile.
So they're only talking a little bit about it.
Qlipse care will initially be available in the US and Canada, providing two years
of coverage, including accidental damage from drops, spills and cracked screens.
If something happens, you pay the $49 deductible and we'll ship you a
replacement rather than making you wait around for repair.
That's pretty cool.
So Qlipse mobile is launching in the US and UK, making it easier to activate voice
and data service directly on Communicator via eSIM, and there's a link you can
learn more about that.
That's particularly interesting because nearly half of our customers tell us
they're thinking about using Communicator as a second phone, a dedicated
communication device.
Of course, Communicator remains unlocked with physical SIM, nano SIM, eSIM
support, so you can absolutely bring your existing carrier too.
So that's what's very interesting about that part.
But one of the things that I mentioned in my previous video when I was reacting to
the walkthrough was that we didn't have a clear, because it wasn't probably ready
yet, it was still baking in the oven.
We didn't get to see the signal light.
Well, now we do.
So let's check it out.
When a contact or chat that's important to me is looking to get my attention, the
signal light lets me know.
Its placement on the side means I can see it face up, face down, or even across
the room.
The color lets me know who it is, while the pattern tells me if it's a message or
a call.
A quick press of the prompt key dismisses the light.
Here's how to set it up.
In the signal settings menu, I can create groups of contacts.
A signal group can have one contact, like my wife, or several contacts, like my
leadership team, direct reports, or family.
I can assign each group a signal light color and decide whether that group can
break through when I'm in Do Not Disturb mode.
When I add contacts from my address book, Communicator uses identifiers, like their
phone number and email address, to match them to incoming messages from popular
apps.
I can also link notifications from other apps to signal contacts.
Reprioritizing my groups tells the signal light that a new message from my wife
should overtake a message from my coworker.
That way, I'm always being alerted to the most important thing that's looking for my
attention, not simply the most recent.
When it comes to group chats, like this one in WhatsApp, I can assign it a signal
light color too, right from the message preview on the home screen.
Same goes for notifications for items like calendar reminders or tasks.
And if I want to silence the signal light, I can just flip the kill switch.
Those of us that use BlackBerrys know exactly what all these features are.
They're just arranged a little differently than we're probably used to for obvious
reasons. But we are happy to see this come back.
And in a modern, I guess, translation, if you will, because this is Android, not
BlackBerry OS or BlackBerry 10.
Either way, this is a spiritual BlackBerry successor that we all have been rooting
for and to see. So a couple of questions that I still have.
One of the biggest ones is the software experience itself.
This is the clicks experience.
But what is going to be the status on the bootloader?
Will we be able to unlock it if we want to sideload a different operating system to
work on this? Not to say that there are that many options, but apostrophe does
exist. And Kevin Michel, if I'm not mistaken, was still an investor into that
company. And that is a privacy focused OS.
And if we can port that over to this, then we'll truly have a spiritual privacy and
security device that we've all been hoping for in this space.
That is a BlackBerry, so to speak, because of the physical keyboard.
So that's my one big glaring question that I haven't received an answer to.
But for everything else, the big updates that they pushed out today, this is
enormous. This is big.
It's not often times that you would see a company start adding more things as a
benefit to you, the user.
Now, it is time, though, so if you're watching this video, if you already made your
reservation, you have to September 30th to customize your order to finalize it.
But if you haven't yet ordered, though, the price will be bumped up to six forty
nine retail value as of October 1st.
So you want in on this device.
You got to go now.
Clix.tech, I believe it is.
