POUGHKEEPSIE – Republican State Senator Rob Rolison (R, Poughkeepsie) lost his bid for another two-year term to Democrat Lisa Kaul, a Dutchess County legislator from the Town of Poughkeepsie.
“Throughout this campaign, we heard from families struggling with rising costs, unaffordable healthcare, and utility bills that make it harder to get ahead,” said Kaul.
She credited the group For the Many for being “an invaluable partner in helping us reach more voters, mobilize grassroots support, and build the broad coalition needed to tackle these challenges and fight for a more affordable Hudson Valley.
Kaul’s platform included issues like freezing rent, public power, progressive revenue, and stopping ICE.
The 39 Senate District includes eastern Orange County, southern Dutchess and a portion of Putnam County.
Rolison is a retired Town of Poughkeepsie Police detective, Dutchess County legislator and mayor of the City of Poughkeepsie.
“Throughout my time in public service, I have always believed that putting people over politics, working across party lines and doing what is right for our communities matters more than any political agenda. That belief has never wavered, and it never will,” Rolison said after he conceded.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve this community. While this chapter may be coming to a close, my love for the Hudson Valley and my commitment to the people who call it home will never end,” he said.
