PEARL RIVER – Republican Congressman Michael Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th District in portions of the Hudson Valley, has conceded defeat to Democrat Cait Conley in a race that caught national attention.

Lawler, who voted in lockstep with President Donald Trump, turned off voters for his divisive rhetoric.

Conley served 16 years as an active-duty Army officer, deployed six times to the Middle East and later led counterterrorism efforts on the National Security Council.

The Representative-elect said she ran “to fix a broken system and fight for a better future for New Yorkers.”
