MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Legislature is going to hire outside legal counsel for the county and county manager following a State Supreme Court justice’s ruling that found the county and county manager in criminal contempt for violating terms of his injunction concerning the county’s Adult Care Center in Liberty.
Justice Kevin Bryant ruled they violated terms of the injunction he issued on September 16 and reaffirmed on September 21 that prevented the transfer of residents from the nursing home.
The court ruled that the county and manager continued to move residents out of the facility and reduced the number of county workers despite the court prohibiting that as well.
The justice found that rather than advise residents of the court ordered stay, the county continued to pressure residents to leave, which deprived them of the opportunity to stay at the facility.
The county legislature will vote in special session on Thursday to hire outside counsel to represent the county and county manager.
