United States — Steven Soderbergh Steps In to Help Complete ‘The Batman Part II’ Filming

Steven Soderbergh will assist with the completion of “The Batman Part II” while director Matt Reeves takes a temporary hiatus to deal with an ongoing family matter, Variety has confirmed.

A representative for the studio said Soderbergh, an admirer of Reeves’ work, approached the filmmaker and offered to help finish the movie. DC Studios has fully supported the arrangement, which will cover the final weeks of principal photography.

“As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in, with the full support of DC Studios, to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on ‘The Batman Part 2,’” the representative said. “Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.”

Soderbergh also expressed his admiration for Reeves’ previous work on the franchise, emphasizing the importance of maintaining consistency with the footage already completed.

“I thought Matt Reeves’ work on ‘The Batman’ was stunning; it was intentional, specific and rigorously coherent,” Soderbergh said. “The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”

Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced a temporary production halt on “The Batman Part II” in early October, explaining that Reeves had stepped away from the project to address a family matter.

“Production on ‘The Batman Part II’ has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” a studio representative said at the time. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

Soderbergh is an Oscar-winning filmmaker whose best-known works include “Traffic,” “Erin Brockovich,” “Sex, Lies, and Videotape” and “Ocean’s Eleven.” His more recent releases include “The Christophers,” “Black Bag,” “Presence” and “John Lennon: The Last Interview.”

The highly anticipated sequel has faced multiple delays since its announcement at CinemaCon 2022. Initially scheduled to premiere on Oct. 2, 2026, the film was subsequently postponed by Warner Bros. to Oct. 1, 2027. In June, its release was pushed back once more, this time to February 2028.

Reeves’ first “Batman” film arrived in theaters in March 2022.

Robert Pattinson is returning as the Caped Crusader in “The Batman Part II.” The cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell, Sebastian Stan, Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright.
