FORT DIX, N.J. — Sean “Diddy” Combs was transported from a federal prison to a hospital early Saturday after suffering a head injury, according to multiple media reports, raising new questions about the circumstances surrounding the former music executive’s incarceration.
Combs, 56, was taken by ambulance from the Federal Correctional Institution at Fort Dix, New Jersey, around 1 a.m. Oct. 10, according to TMZ, which first reported the incident Monday.
Sources familiar with the situation said Combs was conscious and speaking when he returned to the prison later that morning. His injuries were reportedly not life-threatening.
The circumstances surrounding the injury remain unclear, including whether Combs was involved in an altercation, suffered an accidental fall or experienced another medical emergency.
Prison officials have not publicly disclosed how the injury occurred.
Combs’ Representatives Respond to Hospitalization
A spokesperson for Combs acknowledged the reports Monday but stopped short of confirming the circumstances surrounding the injury.
“We are aware of the reports concerning Sean Combs and are working to confirm the circumstances,” spokesperson Juda Engelmayer told PEOPLE.
The representative said Combs’ health remained the immediate priority.
The hospitalization comes during an increasingly controversial period for the former Bad Boy Records founder, whose incarceration has generated headlines involving alleged prison privileges, contraband and disciplinary issues.
Although reports indicate Combs returned to Fort Dix after receiving medical attention, officials have not released detailed information about his medical condition or the cause of the injury.
Prison Privileges and Contraband Allegations
Combs’ hospitalization follows reports that the music mogul allegedly received preferential treatment while serving his federal sentence.
An NBC News investigation published in September described allegations that Combs had access to prohibited cellphones, alcoholic beverages and other privileges unavailable to most federal inmates.
According to the investigation, several inmates alleged that Combs arranged for other prisoners to prepare special meals, clean his living quarters and provide personal services.
The report also alleged that contraband alcohol was smuggled into the facility and that Combs had access to electronic devices used to communicate outside the prison.
Combs’ representatives disputed the characterization of his incarceration, arguing that routine aspects of prison life were being sensationalized.
Following the reports, Combs was reportedly placed in a special housing unit as prison officials examined allegations of misconduct.
The allegations have not all been independently substantiated, and prison officials have not publicly confirmed every detail reported by former or current inmates.
Release Date Pushed Back to March 2028
Combs is serving a 50-month federal prison sentence following his conviction in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
A federal jury acquitted him of the more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges brought by prosecutors.
In October 2025, a federal judge sentenced Combs to 50 months in prison and imposed a $500,000 fine.
The case followed months of testimony concerning allegations of sexual misconduct, coercion, violence and drug use involving the music executive and individuals associated with his entertainment empire.
Combs has denied the most serious allegations against him and continues to challenge his conviction through the appeals process.
His projected release date was originally listed for January 2028.
However, the Federal Bureau of Prisons subsequently moved the projected date to March 2, 2028, following reported disciplinary violations.
The change has renewed attention on Combs’ conduct behind bars and the potential consequences of additional violations.
Questions Surround Prison Safety
The reported head injury also raises questions about safety and medical treatment within federal correctional facilities.
Fort Dix is a low-security federal institution housing male inmates in New Jersey, approximately 40 miles from Philadelphia.
Although Combs reportedly received medical attention and returned to prison, the absence of an official explanation has left questions about what happened.
TMZ previously reported that Combs was involved in an altercation with another inmate in July.
However, there is no verified evidence connecting that earlier incident to Saturday’s reported injury.
Federal prison officials have not announced whether an investigation into the latest incident is underway.
From Entertainment Mogul to Federal Inmate
Combs rose to prominence during the 1990s as the founder of Bad Boy Records, helping launch and promote some of hip-hop’s most recognizable artists.
His business interests eventually expanded into fashion, television, alcoholic beverages and other ventures, establishing him as one of the entertainment industry’s wealthiest and most influential executives.
That empire began unraveling following a series of civil lawsuits and federal criminal allegations.
Combs was arrested in September 2024 and remained in federal custody throughout his criminal proceedings.
His conviction and imprisonment marked a dramatic reversal for an entertainment figure who once enjoyed considerable influence in music, business and celebrity culture.
The latest medical emergency adds another chapter to his legal and personal troubles.
Investigation and Medical Questions Remain
As of Tuesday morning, no official explanation had been released detailing how Combs sustained the head injury.
Reports indicate that he received medical treatment and returned to federal custody, but the incident’s underlying circumstances remain unresolved.
Questions also remain about whether additional disciplinary action could affect his projected release date.
For now, Combs remains incarcerated at Fort Dix while pursuing his legal appeal.
The hospitalization highlights another controversy surrounding the former entertainment mogul, whose prison sentence continues to attract national attention nearly two years after his arrest.
