KINGSTON – The Ulster County Legislature will be next in the Mid-Hudson to review license plate reader technology.

County lawmakers want to develop policy governing the use, access, retention, disclosure and sharing of LPR data.

County Legislator Abe Uchitelle brought the issue to the table.

“I have concerns about what the county is currently doing in terms of collecting data and this legislation does have a resolved clause, which I think is really important, that the county shall conduct an annual audit; however, it’s only an annual audit of Flock, and to my knowledge, we don’t have a contract with Flock,” he said.

More and more local governments are taking a second look at the Flock camera systems over concerns that the data collected could be shared with federal Immigration and Customs officials and other government agencies.
