KINGSTON – The Kingston Common Council passed a resolution, 8-0, Tuesday to authorize Mayor Steve Noble to use Empire State Development grant funds for a citywide parking study.

Noble is authorized to spend $100,000 from the grant, with a 50/50 match, so a consultant can be paid $200,000 to conduct the study.

Before authorizing the study funds, the Common Council voted 5-3 to establish a moratorium on the sale or disbursement of city owned parking lots until the study is completed.

The Common Council also approved the establishment of a battery storage system task force. The six-month task force would look into environmental, fire safety and zoning issues regarding these facilities. Recommendations from the task force could help the Common Council establish zoning regulations for these facilities.
