BREWSTER – A young German Shepherd found abandoned in Brewster last month with her muzzle tightly wrapped in electrical tape continues to recuperate from near fatal trauma as the Putnam SPCA continues to investigate and find those responsible for the severe case of animal abuse.
The dog, named Starr by Brewster Veterinary Hospital staff, since she was found in a strip mall off Starr Ridge Road by a Good Samaritan has undergone several procedures, but additional medical care is needed, according to hospital staff.
SPCA Chief Ken Ross Monday announced his agency was offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the injuries and abandonment of Starr. “Thanks to the generosity of four Good Samaritans, a total of $2,750 has been pledged for the reward. We appreciate their support and shared commitment to finding answers for Starr,” Ross said.
Veterinarians said Starr suffered significant swelling and injuries to her muzzle and mouth, broken teeth, and damage to the tissue surrounding her mouth. She also had abrasions around her collar area and scarring on her ear.
Ross said the SPCA Law Enforcement Division’s criminal investigation stays active and ongoing, and “we continue to seek information from anyone who may know something about what happened to Starr. No tip is too small. If you saw something, heard something, or have any information that could help identify the person or persons responsible, please contact the Putnam County SPCA Law Enforcement Division at 845-520-6915.”
