MONTICELLO- Sullivan County District Attorney Brian Conaty is recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and reaffirming his office’s commitment to prosecuting offenders and supporting victims.
From 2020 through 2025, county law enforcement agencies reported 1,285 domestic violence victims to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services. About two-thirds were harmed by a current or former intimate partner, while 82 percent of victims were women.
Conaty’s office has a Special Victims Unit dedicated to domestic violence cases and provides victims with assistance navigating the court system, safety planning and connections to local support services.
Beginning December 1, a new Crime Victim Advocate will join the office to assist victims of misdemeanor domestic violence. The position is supported by funding from the New York State Office of Victim Services.
