Elon Musk says SpaceX’s artificial intelligence operation will adopt the SpaceXSI name after President Donald Trump called for replacing “artificial intelligence” with what he describes as the more accurate term “super intelligence.”

Elon Musk said Sunday that SpaceX will rename its artificial intelligence unit SpaceXSI, aligning the company’s branding with President Donald Trump’s push to replace the term “artificial intelligence” with “super intelligence.”

The SpaceX CEO confirmed the planned change in a brief exchange on X after a user asked whether the company’s existing SpaceXAI name would be changed to SpaceXSI.

“Yes, we will make that change,” Musk replied.

Musk did not provide a date for the rebranding, explain whether the change would extend beyond the unit’s name or offer additional details about how SpaceXSI would be presented publicly.

As of Sunday, the SpaceXAI account on X had not been renamed, indicating that Musk’s announcement had not yet resulted in a visible change to the company’s social media presence.

SpaceXAI also did not immediately provide additional comment concerning the planned transition or a timetable for implementing it.

The change follows Trump’s public campaign to adopt “super intelligence” as an alternative to the decades-old term “artificial intelligence,” reflecting his argument that rapidly advancing computer systems should no longer be characterized as artificial.

Trump made the case publicly during his address to the United Nations General Assembly last month, saying he wanted the new terminology adopted throughout the U.S. government and ultimately more broadly around the world.

“From this point forward, all of United States documents, and hopefully the world’s will be changed to use the much more accurate term ‘super’ as opposed to artificial. So it’s super intelligence,” Trump said.

The proposed SpaceXSI name would replace the letters “AI,” commonly understood to mean artificial intelligence, with “SI” for super intelligence.

Musk’s decision gives Trump’s preferred terminology a prominent private-sector endorsement from one of the most recognizable figures in the technology industry. Musk has spent years developing increasingly capable machine-learning systems while simultaneously warning about the potential consequences of advanced intelligence exceeding human capabilities.

The planned rebranding also comes as artificial intelligence has become increasingly intertwined with SpaceX’s broader operations and Musk’s technology businesses. Computing systems capable of sophisticated reasoning, software development, automation and autonomous decision-making have become a major focus across the technology sector.

The terminology surrounding those systems has also evolved as their capabilities have increased.

Artificial intelligence has traditionally served as a broad description for computer systems capable of performing tasks normally associated with human intelligence, including language processing, image recognition, problem solving and decision-making.

“Super intelligence,” by contrast, has historically been used more narrowly in technology and academic discussions to describe intelligence that surpasses human capabilities across a broad range of areas.

Trump’s usage represents an effort to make “super intelligence” the broader terminology for the technology itself rather than reserving the term for a theoretical future stage of development.

Musk’s decision to rename SpaceXAI suggests he is willing to adopt that distinction at the corporate level.

The announcement was notably brief. Musk did not say whether SpaceXSI would represent only a change in branding or whether the new name would accompany changes in the unit’s organization, products or technological strategy.

He also did not indicate whether existing products associated with SpaceXAI would themselves undergo terminology changes.

For the moment, SpaceXAI remains the publicly visible name while the company awaits implementation of Musk’s announced rebranding.

The exchange nevertheless marks a notable convergence between Trump’s effort to redefine the language surrounding advanced computing and Musk’s own approach to developing the technology.

Trump has argued that the word “artificial” inadequately describes systems whose capabilities are rapidly increasing, instead promoting “super” as a description he believes better reflects their power and potential.

Musk’s response Sunday effectively moves that argument from political rhetoric into corporate branding.

Once implemented, SpaceXSI will place “super intelligence” directly in the name of Musk’s artificial intelligence operation, giving Trump’s preferred terminology one of its most prominent endorsements from the U.S. technology industry.

Exactly when that transformation will occur remains unclear. Musk offered no timetable Sunday, and the SpaceXAI X account had not yet changed its name at the time the announcement was reported.

For now, Musk’s commitment consists of an unequivocal promise to make the switch.

“Yes, we will make that change,” he said.
