CARMEL – A Brewster man faces multiple charges after allegedly forcibly touching a woman on a Metro-North train and assaulting a clerk at a Lake Carmel service station within an 18-hour period. Sheriff Brian Hess announced Thursday the arrest of Diego Rodriguez-Ordonez, 24, in connection with both incidents.
Deputies responded to the Metro-North Southeast station around 9 p.m. after a woman reported that a man had forcibly touched her aboard a train. The suspect had fled before deputies arrived.
Hess said that when a deputy located Rodriguez-Ordonez near the train yard, “he refused repeated commands and resisted arrest. A Taser was deployed, and the suspect was taken into custody,” said Hess.
Rodriguez-Ordonez was charged with: Forcible Touching, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Trespass.
He was arraigned in Southeast Town Court and remanded to the Putnam Facility on bail.
Hess noted that earlier in the day, members of his department assisted Kent Police at the Sinclair gas station on Route 52 and Towners Road after Rodriguez-Ordonez allegedly assaulted a store clerk who attempted to stop him from stealing merchandise. Sheriff’s Deputies located Rodriguez-Ordonez hiding in a swampy area near the gas station and took him into custody. He was charged with robbery and assault. Kent Police also charged Rodriguez-Ordonez with felony criminal mischief in connection with a separate incident at a nearby bank.
Hess said: “Two arrests. Two victims. Eighteen hours. This individual was back on our streets just hours after his first arrest. This type of predatory behavior has no place in Putnam County. I am grateful that neither victim was seriously injured, and I commend our deputies and partners at the Kent Police Department for their swift and thorough action.”
