NEW CITY – Rockland County Executive Ed Day on Thursday unveiled a proposed $964.8 million budget for 2027 that calls for no increase in the county property tax levy.
Day said the proposal would mark the sixth consecutive year without an increase in county property taxes. He said taxes have been reduced by 4% during that period.
The budget includes continued funding for the HERROS program, which provides up to $6,000 in college tuition reimbursement to volunteer emergency responders. The program has provided more than $700,000 in reimbursements since its inception, according to the county.
The proposal also includes funding for parks, trails and open-space initiatives, including continued work related to the 236-acre Eagle Valley Assemblage acquisition in Sloatsburg. The county plans to seek grants to help cover costs, according to the administration.
Other initiatives include efforts to automate some Law Department workflows, modernize county purchasing systems and strengthen cybersecurity and information technology systems.
Day urged the County Legislature to maintain spending discipline as it considers the proposed budget.
“I urge our Legislature to stand with me in safeguarding the money of our residents and refrain from engaging in careless spending,” Day said.
