HARTWELL, Ga.— Second Amendment advocate, media host and former National Rifle Association board appointee Lucretia Hughes Klucken is seeking the petition signatures required to qualify as a candidate for the NRA Board of Directors in 2027, with an Oct. 13 deadline approaching.
Hughes Klucken is pursuing a place on the ballot through the NRA’s petition process after not receiving a nomination from the organization’s Nominating Committee this cycle.
Her campaign is now focused on collecting enough valid signatures from eligible NRA voting members before the petition deadline.
The effort marks another chapter in Hughes Klucken’s involvement with the organization and the national debate over the Second Amendment.
Hughes Klucken previously appeared on the NRA’s 2025 Board of Directors ballot. Official NRA election results show she later finished fifth in voting for the organization’s 76th director position at the 2025 NRA Annual Meetings in Atlanta.
She also previously served on the NRA Nominating Committee and Outreach Committee, according to her official biography published by the NRA for the 2025 election.
From Personal Loss to Second Amendment Advocacy
Hughes Klucken’s advocacy is rooted partly in personal tragedy.
Her 19-year-old son, Emmanuel, was shot and killed in 2016. Hughes Klucken later took her argument about violent crime and gun policy directly to Capitol Hill.
On June 8, 2022, she testified before the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform during a hearing titled “The Urgent Need to Address the Gun Violence Epidemic.”
In her written testimony, Hughes Klucken told lawmakers that her son’s killer was a convicted felon who used an illegally obtained firearm. She argued that additional restrictions on lawful gun owners would not have prevented her son’s murder and advocated education, firearms training and safe handling instead.
Her public advocacy has continued through media appearances, speaking engagements and Women for Gun Rights.
Earlier this month, Hughes Klucken participated in the 2026 Women for Gun Rights National Summit in Washington, where advocates gathered for policy discussions, grassroots organizing and meetings with government officials.
Petition Campaign Underway
The immediate challenge is now procedural: obtaining the valid signatures necessary to secure a position on the 2027 ballot.
Hughes Klucken and supporters have begun circulating the petition online and in person, including outreach to NRA members and firearms communities.
The deadline displayed on her campaign material is Oct. 13, 2026.
Only signatures that satisfy the NRA’s petition requirements ultimately count toward qualification, making verification as important as the raw number of people who attempt to sign.
The campaign comes as Hughes Klucken continues hosting Real News with Lucretia Hughes and writing political and public-policy commentary.
