WALDEN – A year after Walden police Officer Jordan Mauro responded to a call involving a choking infant who had become unresponsive, he was reunited with the girl whose life he helped save.

Arabella and her mother this week visited the Walden Police Department to see Mauro and mark the anniversary of the September 2025 emergency.

Police were dispatched to a Pleasant Avenue residence on Sept. 14, 2025, for a report of an infant who was choking, turning blue, and had become unresponsive, according to Walden Village Board meeting minutes.

Mauro arrived within minutes and found the child’s mother attempting to help her. He took the child and administered back blows until she began crying and breathing again.

The child was identified as 1-year-old Arabella. During the recent visit to the police department, Arabella’s mother, Patricia Strunk, presented Mauro with a letter and a footprint from her daughter.

“You may have been doing your job that day, but to me, you were doing so much more than that,” Strunk wrote. “You became part of our family story.”

She added, “You gave us more time with her.”

Walden police also recognized Officer Rob McCutcheon and dispatchers Kathleen McClintock and Jessica Murphy for their roles in the 2025 response.
