Comedian Scott Thompson, known professionally as Carrot Top, was hospitalized in Las Vegas following a reported suicide attempt Friday, prompting the cancellation of his show at the Luxor as his representatives said he was receiving medical care and support.

The 61-year-old entertainer was rushed to a hospital after the reported incident, according to TMZ. Details surrounding the circumstances of the reported attempt were not immediately available.

Thompson’s publicist confirmed that the comedian remained hospitalized but did not provide further information about his condition.

“Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs. His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers, and respectfully ask for privacy.”

The hospitalization comes amid a period of legal turmoil for Thompson, who has been accused by two men of sexual misconduct and exploitation in separate lawsuits filed in recent days. The allegations remain claims in civil litigation.

One of the plaintiffs, identified in reporting as singer Bryan Adams, has accused Thompson of sending him a sexually explicit photograph and making promises involving entertainment projects and career opportunities that allegedly were not fulfilled.

The lawsuit includes allegations concerning both Thompson’s personal conduct and representations he allegedly made about professional assistance, according to reporting on the legal dispute.

A second plaintiff, Zachary Defazio, alleged that Thompson initially contacted him through the Grindr dating app and sent him an anonymous photograph before the two later met at a bar in Winter Park, Florida.

Defazio alleges Thompson supplied him with alcohol despite Defazio being younger than the legal drinking age at the time.

His lawsuit further alleges that during an October 2021 encounter, he became too intoxicated to consent to sexual activity.

“I am a victim of Scott ‘Carrot Top’ Thompson,” Defazio stated in the filing.

The allegations have not been adjudicated, and the material provided does not indicate that Thompson has been found liable for any of the conduct alleged in the lawsuits.

Thompson became nationally recognizable during the 1990s for an energetic style of prop comedy built around visual jokes, physical performance and unconventional stage routines. He later established a long-running Las Vegas residency and has remained closely associated with the city’s entertainment industry.

He has been particularly recognized for his high-energy stage performances, with his distinctive appearance and elaborate collection of comedy props becoming central features of his public persona.

Thompson has also publicly described a lifestyle that differs from the heavy drinking and recreational drug use often associated with some areas of entertainment culture.

“I’m completely sober. I don’t smoke marijuana, and I never have. I don’t think I have been drunk since high school, literally,” he said in a 2022 interview with Metal Life Magazine.

The entertainer is unmarried and has no children, according to reporting following his hospitalization.

Friday’s hospitalization resulted in the immediate cancellation of his scheduled Luxor performance while he remained under medical care.

His representatives have not publicly detailed his treatment, how long he is expected to remain hospitalized or when his Las Vegas performances could resume.

The publicist’s statement instead emphasized Thompson’s recovery and requested privacy for the comedian and those close to him as he receives care.

His hospitalization follows several days in which the two civil lawsuits brought new public attention to allegations involving his private conduct. The claims in those cases remain unresolved, and no determination regarding their merits has been made.

For now, Thompson’s representatives say the entertainer remains hospitalized and recovering in Las Vegas, with his family and associates asking that his privacy be respected while he receives treatment.
