A steaming cup of cider, the sweet bite of peppermint, twinkling lights, and maybe a holiday horror-comedy to round it out. For those whose seasonal movie tastes lean toward something a little less saccharine, the upcoming film Christmas at the Kringles might be worth adding to the holiday menu.

Not a Cup for Everyone

Holiday horror hasn’t always been the easiest genre to find, but as the years have gone by, fans of this corner of cinema have been treated to more offerings that cater to their darker tastes. Christmas at the Kringles is one such addition, bringing out the horror hidden beneath all that holiday merriment. It might arrive a little early. Who says one has to wait to unwrap a gift or two?

Don’t get it confused with the 2004 holiday comedy Christmas with the Kranks. This Kringles family brings something much darker to the neighborhood. Here, the holidays are taken a little too seriously, and the result is far more discomfort than joy. Per ComingSoon.net,

“The story follows the Seversons, a family starting fresh in a quiet suburban neighborhood, whose next-door neighbors, the Kringles, celebrate Christmas year-round.”

Nothing says Christmas fanaticism quite like jolliness run amok.

When Holiday Cheer Goes Too Far

The feature stems from the creative mind of Zack Imbrogno, and there appears to be no shortage of mayhem or bloodshed beneath all those Christmas lights. For those wondering whether the film will feature a cameo from the jolliest of them all, the answer is yes. He may look a little different than some remember.

A snippet of the plot offers a glimpse at what awaits.

With the Seversons finding themselves caught in a chaotic and horrific bloodbath as they uncover the Kringles’ mysterious motives. What follows is a life-or-death rescue mission that sees Mark Severson teaming up with a rogue, badass Santa.

With Christmas cheer taken to such an unsettling extreme, Christmas at the Kringles seems determined to remind viewers that even the merriest season can have a darker side.
