MAHOPAC – The painful memories of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, may have passed yet parishioners at St. John’s Church in Mahopac want the world to never forget and on Monday conducted a special service honoring the emergency service victims of that tragic day.
Church pastor Fr. Szymon Kurpios celebrated the Mass, and Fr. John Vigilanti, who served as a first responder in the 9/11 area after the attacks, delivered the homily.
Members of the Putnam County emergency services community participated in a candle-extinguishing ceremony to honor the fallen firefighters and police officers, with each participant naming a specific emergency service worker they wished to remember for their sacrifice.
Father Szymon reflected, “Our service was a meaningful day of remembrance, gratitude, and unity as we honored those we lost and all those who continue to keep their memory alive.”
