South America — “South Park” is adding another layer to its political satire by temporarily rebranding itself “SOUTH AMERICA.” Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced the gag after President Donald Trump promoted the idea of renaming New Mexico as “New America.”
The joke follows Trump’s earlier efforts involving geographic names, including the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario. The creators also used the rebranding to poke fun at Paramount, the show’s parent company.
“South Park” has repeatedly taken aim at Trump and his administration since his return to the White House. The series premiered on August 13, 1997, and has won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program five times, receiving 21 nominations.
The new season is set to premiere September 16 on Comedy Central. Streaming access on Paramount+ in the United States, Canada and Australia will follow the next day.
CNN said it contacted Paramount and the White House for comment.
