CARMEL – Seven heroes of September 11, 2001, have been added to the Putnam County 9/11 Memorial ahead of the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
On Tuesday evening, widows of the police and firefighters met with Denis Hanrahan who coordinates Putnam’s ceremony each year and were each presented with a piece of the World Trade Center.
The seven names added: Lt. Joseph Cody of the FDNY; Firefighter Kenneth Holler of the FDNY; Lt. Anthony Garvey of the NYPD; Putnam County Sheriff and MTA Police Chief Kevin McConville; Chief Ron Goodrow of the Mahopac FD; Sgt. Harry Gorman of the New York Air National Guard and Sgt. Kenneth Meury of the NYPD.
The latest victims of the terrorist attacks join Putnam’s eight heroes who died on 9/11 plus the 16 others who have passed away from September 11 illnesses since the day that turned the world upside down.
An updated monument will be installed today at Cornerstone Park in Carmel because the original memorial could not accommodate the names of those who have died since that fateful day.
