KINGSTON – Conditions at the Ulster County morgue in Kingston are “beyond third-world conditions,” County Legislator Eric Stewart said following a tour of the facility in HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston.
The conditions were shocking, he told fellow lawmakers following the tour.
“Ceiling tiles were falling off. Important pieces of equipment, such as refrigeration units were not working. They have to contract with the hospital on a daily basis to have people come in and mop blood off the floor; there was blood on the floor in the refrigeration unit where there were multiple bodies being stored at the time,” he said.
Stewart said the problems there must be addressed both in the short-term and long-term.
