CARMEL – Putnam County’s twice-postponed Independence Day fireworks extravaganza planned for Southeast went off without a hitch on Sunday evening when thousands crowded into the Highlands Shopping Center off Routes 84 and 312 for the pyrotechnics display. The rains that canceled the original event back in early July were replaced by moonlit skies.
Members of the Brewster Fire Department stood by while offering a BBQ for members of neighboring departments and ambulance corps prior to the show.
Putnam REACT was also in attendance assisting with traffic control. REACT founder and current chief Warren Dietz thanked the local fire service for the “nice hospitality.”
Members of the Sheriff’s Department and State Police assisted with traffic control while fire companies from Carmel, Lake Carmel, Patterson and Putnam Lake also provided coverage.
