WASHINGTON — Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania issued one of his strongest warnings yet about the Democratic Socialists of America, accusing the organization of seeking to impoverish middle-class white Americans while seizing control of private production.

During an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Fetterman rejected a series of policies promoted by the DSA, including abolishing the U.S. Senate, eliminating Immigration and Customs Enforcement, granting amnesty to immigrants living in the country illegally and dismantling the nation’s prison system.

“They want to impoverish middle class whites, and seize all the production,” Fetterman said, according to Breitbart News.

Fetterman also described the DSA as anti-capitalist, anti-American and hostile to the American way of life. He called on members of his own party to condemn the socialist organization and argued that DSA-aligned candidates should establish a separate political party instead of operating under the Democratic banner.

The senator’s accusation that the DSA wants to impoverish middle-class white Americans is his interpretation of the movement’s ideology. That wording does not appear in the organization’s published platform. However, the DSA’s own policy document confirms that its ambitions reach far beyond expanding government benefits or increasing taxes on wealthy Americans.

In its 2026 platform, titled “Workers Deserve More,” the DSA openly imagines a future without capitalism and calls for rebuilding American society under a new socialist political and economic system.

The organization says its members are working to “draft a new constitution, and create a democratic socialist republic.” It also declares that complete victory will require building a new society “from the ground up.”

Those are not Republican talking points. Those are the Democratic Socialists of America’s own words.

The DSA platform calls for public ownership of the nation’s largest corporations and essential industries, aggressive wealth taxes, universal rent control and a 32-hour workweek with full pay and benefits.

The organization also advocates abolishing the Electoral College and the Senate. It proposes replacing the president and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary controlled by Congress, expanding voting rights to permanent residents who are not U.S. citizens and restoring voting rights to incarcerated criminals.

Its immigration platform calls for abolishing ICE, ending deportations, granting amnesty to immigrants regardless of their legal status and eliminating visa caps and quotas.

On law enforcement, the DSA proposes redirecting police funding as part of a long-term effort toward “fully abolishing the police and prison system.”

Even Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, the nation’s most prominent self-described democratic socialist, rejected the DSA proposal to abolish the Senate. Other Democratic senators have also dismissed portions of the platform as unrealistic or politically dangerous, according to reporting published by VTDigger and NOTUS.

Fetterman has repeatedly warned that the socialist movement is gaining influence inside the Democratic Party. Following a series of DSA-backed primary victories earlier this year, he described the party’s leftward movement as an “orgy of socialism” and accused socialist candidates of being hostile to America and Western civilization.

The DSA argues that its policies would empower workers, eliminate poverty and provide housing, health care, education and transportation as public goods. Its supporters contend that capitalism concentrates wealth and power among corporations and billionaires while leaving working families struggling with debt and rising living costs.

But there is a question the sales pitch never answers: Who controls the government powerful enough to seize industries, eliminate private ownership and restructure the Constitution?

The promise of government-provided security may sound compassionate. The cost is surrendering economic freedom, constitutional checks and balances, private property rights and individual choice to political authorities who believe they know what every American should be allowed to own, earn and control.

America’s constitutional system was designed to divide power because the Founders understood that concentrated power — whether held by corporations, presidents or socialist governments — threatens liberty.

Fetterman deserves credit for saying publicly what many Democratic leaders refuse to acknowledge. This is no longer a debate over whether the government should fund another program or increase another tax. The DSA’s stated goal is to replace capitalism, restructure the federal government and build a new political order.

Americans should read the platform for themselves and bring the receipts. When a political organization says it wants to abolish constitutional institutions, seize control of major industries and rebuild society from the ground up, believe that it intends to try.

The Real News with Lucretia Hughes — bringing the receipts, defending the Constitution and telling the truth the establishment would rather ignore.
